Alecia Kay Shamy

Alecia Shamy, 66, went to be with the Lord on July 2, 2025. She was born on September 19, 1958, in Durango, Colorado to Pete & Judith (Herrera) Turnell.
Born and raised in Northglenn, Alecia lived a life defined by love, honesty, and unwavering strength. We celebrate the life of a remarkable woman whose simple grace and spirit touched everyone she met. A devoted mother of five, her children were her greatest joy. She also devoted herself to caring for her grandmother and mother, showing compassion through action.
Never one to back down from a challenge, she earned her GED, joined Phi Theta Kappa on the honor roll, and proved that perseverance wins every time. Her work ethic shone at Mountain West Printing's book bindery, through long hours and hard days, she never gave up, even when life got tough-always reminding herself and others to "let go and let God."
She lived simply and unbothered by negativity, an honest soul who found peace in a good book. Reading was her favorite escape, and tackling puzzles was her quiet delight. She never walked past a thrift store grab bag without peeking inside, and on weekends she could be found enjoying a game of chance in Black Hawk.
Generous to her core, she was a mother to many -always ready to lend a hand or share what little she had. Family gatherings brought her alive, and nephew Leon held a special place in her heart.
She leaves behind a legacy of strength, compassion, and joy in life's simple pleasures. Though she may have crossed the final threshold, her laughter over a well-worn novel, her grit in the bindery, and her faith-filled motto will forever guide those who loved her.
Her memory will be cherished in every puzzle completed, every book opened, and every selfless act carried on in her name.
Alecia is survived by her four children, John Shamy, Annette Shamy, Jesse Paswater, and David (Hope) Aguilar; 9 grandchildren, Kaylynn (Ethan) Lintt, Anthony Shamy, Josh Shamy, Gracie Shamy, Daniel Owen, Janaya Garcia, Landon Paswater, Eli Paswater, and a Bun-In-The-Oven!; great-grandson, Stetson Lintt; siblings, Patricia (Steven) Turnell, Debby Turnell; father, Pete Herrera; and a large loving extended family.
She is preceded in death by her daughter, Angela Shamy; life partner, Joe Kempter; mother, Judith Turnell; and nephew, Leon Grable.
