Johnny Anthony "HULK" Hernandez
December 2, 1948 – October 29, 2025
Johnny Anthony "HULK" Hernandez, 76, of Peckham, Colorado, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2025. Born December 2, 1948, to Patresio R. Hernandez and Benita Oviedo, Johnny lived a life defined by hard work, devotion, and love.
A graduate of Valley High School (Class of 1966), Johnny worked for Colorado Ditchline, Hernandez and Son's Concrete, Kodak, and briefly at Halliburton. His passion was concrete finishing-a craft he mastered with pride and precision. Known for his tireless work ethic, Johnny could often be found pouring yards of concrete after a long 12-hour shift at Kodak, working alongside his brother Patresio and nephews. He always had a "crew". His famous phrase, "Where's the mud?" became a motto that captured his spirit.
Johnny was a devoted single father who dedicated his life to raising his two daughters with unwavering love, guidance, and strength. In his younger years, he enjoyed running the backroads of Peckham, lifting weights in his living room, and making quick trips to Sonic Drive-In for his beloved Route 44 Diet Cherry Coke. A lifelong Raiders fan, Johnny looked forward to football season and cherished time with family and friends. His laughter and smile were contagious.
He is survived by daughters Shirley Vigil of Greeley, and Phyllis Hernandez (Edward) of Brighton; siblings Patresio Hernandez of Greeley and Isabell (Tim) Donnelly of Evans; Freddy Hernandez of Peckham, grandchildren Nicole Mendoza (Izrael) of Greeley, Marty Vigil Jr. of Greeley, Mario Antuna Jr. of Ft. Lupton, and Loni Aragon (De'ray) of St. George, Utah, Dominic Gonzales and Gianna Gonzales of Brighton; eight great-grandchildren; aunts, uncles, numerous nieces, nephews, and godchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Patresio Sr. and Benita Hernandez; sister Phyllis "Bess" Hernandez; brother Anthony "Bones" Hernandez; son-in-law Marty Vigil; and many beloved pets, most recently Tyson, his pug.
The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Banner Health Medical Center for their compassion and support during Johnny's final days. Per his wishes, a private celebration of life will be held.
"Forever in our hearts."
