Dr. Alehegn Asres was born from his father Mr. Asres Ferede and his mother Mrs. Gelaye Workneh. He was born on September 1, 1955 in Feres Meda, district of Gondar province.
When he was old enough to go to school, he attended his primary school at Amora Gedel Adventist Missionary School. He also completed his middle school in Debretabor Adventist Missionery School. He attended his secondary education at Kuyera and Akaki Adventist Missionary boarding school Schools.
After completing his high school education with high honors, Dr. Alehegn got a scholarship to study abroad and went to Budapest, Hungary where he completed his Doctor of Medicine and specialized in Ear, Nose and Throat care. He returned to Ethiopia to serve to his country and worked at Zewditu Hospital in Addis Ababa. Shortly after, he was promoted as a Medical Director at Dilla Hospital, Awasa.
In 1996, Dr. Alehegn Asres won Diversity Visa lottery and moved to the United States. He completed 3 years Residency Program in Family Medicine at Michigan State Midland University. Since then, he served the public diligently as a Family Physician, working in various hospitals and clinics in Michigan and North Carolina until 2019. Dr. Alehegn Asres is known for his dedication to his patients. He worked tirelessly to help the sick in their time of need. He also strived to uphold principles of his Christianity faith throughout his life.
From his marriage with Sister Askalemariam Yigzaw, Dr. Aleghen is survived by his two sons, Dagmawi Asres, a freshman in college, and Caleb Asres, an 11th grader.
Dr. Alehegn Asres was receiving medical treatment for his illness since 2019 and passed away on March 21, 2023 at the age of 67. May God rest his soul and bring comfort to his children, family and relatives.
Funeral service will be held Sunday, April 2, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Phillips Funeral Service Chapel. Interment will follow at Carolina Biblical Gardens.
