In Loving Memory of Alejandro “Alex” Ramirez, Jr.
January 28, 1944 – September 5, 2025
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Alex Ramirez Jr., who left us peacefully on September 5, 2025, at the age of 81, surrounded by his loving family. Born on January 28, 1944, in El Paso, Texas, Alex was the beloved son of Alejandro and Soledad Ramirez. He was raised in El Paso, Texas, where he graduated from Jefferson High School and later went on to work toward a degree in Music from the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP).
Alex was a passionate student of music and was only one credit short of earning his degree in the field when the Vietnam War interrupted his education. His commitment to his studies and his country exemplified the character he carried throughout his life. Alex served proudly in the United States Army, where he was honored as a veteran who dedicated himself to his country. After his service, he had a fulfilling career with Mountain Bell (later Lucent Technologies), where he worked diligently until his retirement.
Alex was the loving partner of Myrtle Granados for 30 years. Their enduring bond was one of deep companionship and mutual respect. He was also married to Delia D. Ramirez, who remains an important part of his life, although they were separated.
A man of deep faith, Alex was a devoted member of San Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he found community and purpose. He took great joy in the simple pleasures of life, including the companionship of his beloved bulldog, Lulubell, who brought him endless joy and comfort.
Alex’s family meant everything to him. He is survived by his two sons, Alex Ramirez III of Abington, Pennsylvania and Alfonso (Christina) Ramirez of Fayetteville, North Carolina; his three stepsons, Ernest Granados Jr. (‘25), Michael Granados, and Gerald Granados all of Albuquerque, New Mexico; his two brothers, Arturo (Betty) Ramirez of El Paso, Texas and Agustin (Sue) Ramirez of Norman, Oklahoma; and his two sisters, Zenaida Romero of Austin, Texas and Dolores (Armando) Barrios of El Paso, Texas. He is lovingly remembered by his nieces and nephews: Yvonne Ramirez and Yvette Flores (Rick); Agustin Ramirez Jr. (Cecy), Ben McFarland (Stephanie), and Marinda Williams (Josh); Nancy Kovach (Brandon); and Arlene Contreras, Armando Barrios Jr. (Candice), Amy Rivera (Miguel), Goddaughter Annette Barrios, and Adrian Barrios (Priscilla). He also leaves behind many other extended family members and friends who will cherish his memory.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at San Martin de Porres Catholic Church, 8301 Camino San Martin SW, Albuquerque, N.M. Burial will follow at San Jose De Armijo Cemetery, 2957 Arenal Rd SW, Albuquerque, N.M.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to San Martin de Porres in Alex's memory.
Alex’s legacy of kindness, faith, and dedication will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
