With a spirit that was as infectious as his laughter, Alejandro Diaz, better known to those who loved him as "Alejo," bid us farewell on December 30, 2025. Born on April 24, 1941, in the sun-kissed town of Yabucoa, Puerto Rico, Alejandro brought joy to everyone lucky enough to cross paths with him. His vibrant and funny nature were as captivating as the melodies he played on his beloved cuatro puertorriqueño and guitar, and his love for lucha libre was only surpassed by the love he had for his family. As the great Maya Angelou once said, "I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Alejandro, with his spirited personality, made everyone feel cherished and loved.
Generous in spirit and heart, Alejandro led a life centered around giving. Regardless of the challenges life threw at him, his love for his family and his passion for music never wavered. Alejandro, a lifelong resident of
Springfield, Massachusetts, was the embodiment of resilience and love. His laughter was a melody that resonated far beyond the walls of his home, and his stories of Puerto Rico painted vivid pictures of a land he held dear to his heart. His generosity, love, and spirit left an indelible mark on everyone he met. "The purpose of life," as Ralph Waldo Emerson put it, "is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well." Alejandro, with his life of love and compassion, made a magnificent difference.
Alejandro leaves behind a loving family, who will continue to honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest. He is survived by his children, Carmen Cruz, David Diaz, and Luis Diaz; and his grandchildren, Katherine Ortiz, Joshe Diaz, Karitza Diaz, and Jonathan Diaz. He is preceded in death by his parents, Martin Diaz and Maria Ortiz; and his son, Jose Diaz.
Visitation hours will be held on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, from 9:00 Am to 11:00 AM, at Puerta Del Cielo® Funeral Home, 730 State Street,
Springfield, Massachusetts, 01109. The committal service will follow at 11:30 AM, at Oak Grove Cemetery, 426 Bay Street,
Springfield, MA.
