Alejandro “Alex” O. Sandoval, of Fort Worth, Texas, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2026 while surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in San Antonio, Texas on April 24, 1948, the son of Frank Luna Sandoval and Guadalupe Olivo Thompson. A memorial service, with military honors, will take place on Saturday, January 17, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Commerce Funeral Home and Cremation Service.

Alex attended Harland High School in San Antonio, Texas, graduating with the class of 1966. He enlisted in the Army in May of 1967. On October 19, 1967, he married the love of his life, Helen Salas Sandoval, and they enjoyed 58 happy years together before his death. Alex attended some classes at UTA from 1981 to 1983. He then worked as a truck driver for 28 years before his retirement.

Alex had many interesting hobbies, including attending Renaissance Fairs, working 3D puzzles, watching old Westerns, playing golf, bowling, yard work, and road trips “just for fun”. Also, he and Helen made it a point to dine at a new place every month! Alex loved animals, and had several beloved pets including Penny, Oreo, Princess, Kuma, Baby and Bear.

Those left to cherish Alex’s memory are his wife, Helen; children, Mary Pate (Tyson Pate), Lupe Torres, and Alex Sandoval II (Patty Burkett); siblings, Frank Sandoval (Antonia), Debra Goodier (Winslow), and Norman Thompson (Jenny); along with 7 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Preceding Alex in death are his father, POW Frank Luna Sandoval, mother, Guadalupe Thompson, stepfather, Norman Thompson; and brother, Joseph Thompson.

Serving as Honorary Bearers are Frank Sandoval, Jr., Norman Thompson, Jr., Alex Sandoval II, Vanessa Casillas, Victoria Torres, and Sebastian Sandoval.
