Aleta G. Spreer April 24, 1949 – August 18, 2025
Aleta G. Spreer, 76, of Grantville, Kansas, passed away at her home on Monday, August 18, 2025. Born on April 24, 1949, in Winfield, Kansas, Aleta spent much of her childhood in the Dexter, Kansas area, where she lived mostly with her grandparents and father. She graduated from Dexter High School in 1967 and moved to Perry, KS, where she met her husband, Dennis A. Spreer. They were married on May 26, 1968.
Aleta was a talented seamstress and quilter, known throughout the area for her creativity and skill. She started Quilts of Yesterday in the mid-1980s, a quilting business she ran for over a decade. Over the years, Aleta made hundreds of quilts and quilting projects. She especially loved teaching others to quilt and formed many lifelong friendships.
Aleta was a 4-H leader for many years in Jefferson County as part of the Grantville 4-H Club. She spent years teaching and mentoring young 4-H’ers and served as a county fair sewing and quilting judge.
She was a member of the Grantville United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir, taught vacation Bible school, and helped organize annual church dinners and other events until her failing health limited her. Her faith was quiet but steadfast. She shared her beliefs by example through how she lived her life and loved others.
Above all, Aleta was a loving mother and grandmother. She is survived by her two children: Annette (Joe) Spreer-Raschke of Overland Park, KS, and Steven (Wendy) Spreer of Silver Lake, KS. She was a proud and cherished grandmother to Benjamin Raschke, Madelyn Spreer, Grant Spreer, Daniel Raschke, and Carter Spreer. Her family was her greatest joy, and she poured her love into every moment spent with them.
Aleta was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis, who passed away in 1997. Their marriage was a partnership built on love, mutual respect, hard work, and shared goals.
A graveside service will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 23, at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Perry, followed by a celebration of life at the Grantville United Methodist Church in Grantville, KS, beginning at 6:00 p.m.
Aleta will be remembered for her warmth, her creativity, and her unwavering dedication to others. Her legacy lives on in the quilts she stitched, the lives she touched, and the family she loved so very much.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Grantville United Methodist Church, honoring Aleta’s lifelong commitment to faith and community.
