John Henry Ashby, 89, of Grantville, passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2025.

He was born November 26, 1935, in Centerville, Iowa, the son of Boyd and Zoe (Fields) Ashby. He was a 1952 graduate of Unionville High School, Unionville, Missouri. He served in United States Air Force from November 5, 1954 until being honorably discharged on February 4, 1959.

John was employed by the DuPont later becoming Flexel for 37 years until retiring. After retiring, he worked part time for Performance Tire in Topeka.

He was a member of the Northland Christian Church, of Topeka and attended Grantville United Methodist Church, Grantville, Kansas.

John married Mary Williams on June 8, 1958 in Topeka, Kansas. She preceded him in death on December 8, 2020. Survivors include two daughters, Stacy (Darren) Schrock of Buhler, KS and Tammy “Tam” Ashby of Overland Park, KS; two granddaughters, Madison Schrock and Sydney Schrock; and his special friend, Jan Davis.

John loved his family. He actively supported the Meriden Antique Engine and Threshers Association and enjoyed restoring John Deere “Johnny Poppers”, Sunday coffee with the guys and shuttling the farm crew. He also enjoyed a lovely retirement as a founding resident at Cedarhurst of Topeka.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Monday, May 19, 2025 at Parker Price Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka.

A funeral ceremony will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 20, 2025 at the Grantville United Methodist Church, 3724 South St, Grantville, KS 66429. Interment will follow at Grantville Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Grantville United Methodist Church.
