Alex Gurule

Alex Gurule, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away on February 19, 2024 at age 87, surrounded by his family. He was born in Polvadera, New Mexico on May 6, 1936. He is preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Bertha Gurule; grandson Josiah Gurule, great-grandson Zander Gurule; his father and mother, Esequiel and Josefina Gurule; two sisters, and five brothers.

He is survived by his daughters Linda Self and husband Clayton, Denise Leaf, Michelle Padilla and husband Joseph, Stephanie Sanchez and husband Freddy; son Alex Gurule Jr; his fifteen grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. He is also survived by three brothers, Adolph Gurule, Alfred Gurule, and Richard (Lefty) Gurule.

Alex was born to Esequiel Gurule and Josefina (Garcia) Gurule. He came from a big family, two sisters, Helen Pino and Frances Gurule; 8 brothers, Adolph, Alfred, Gilbert, Willie, Lawrence, Richard (Lefty), Leo, and Raymond. Alex lived in Polvadera, New Mexico until age five and then moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico where he lived the rest of his life. Alex made his career in the grocery business where he started as a young man and continued on to manage several grocery stores in Albuquerque until retiring.

Alex had many, many friends in his lifetime. He was loved by so many people. He loved fishing and the outdoors. He loved to garden his whole life, where he grew the best chili peppers in New Mexico. You never left his home without taking some chili with you. He will be greatly missed but will live in our hearts forever with the many stories he told and memories he left us with. May our loving dad rest in peace with our mom.

Funeral services will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church, 562 Atrisco Dr. S.W. Albuquerque, New Mexico on Tuesday, March 5, 2024. A rosary will be held at 8:30 a.m. followed by a mass at 9:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
