Alexander William Hughes, 31, died Saturday, January 1, 2022 at North Suburban Medical Center in Thornton, CO. Alex was born on August 30, 1990 in Carbondale, IL, the son of Angela Hughes Pope. Alex had the distinction of being the first child of his generation in the family, capturing the love and adoration of his aunts and uncles, as well as his great aunts and uncles. In 2000, Alex, his mother and beloved, stepfather, Ryan Pope, moved to Longmont, CO. Alex was a graduate of Skyline High School and attended Front Range Community College. His career centered on retail and telecommunication sales. His most cherished role was that of father to his darling son, Kit Parker Hughes, 3, spending much of his time as a stay-at-home parent. Alex was a fan of all the Denver sports teams, but his favorite sport was basketball, making him a devoted fan of the Denver Nuggets. Alex is survived by his step-father, Ryan Pope and partner Rochele Rattiner of Greenwood Village, CO, son Kit of Fort Worth, TX, maternal aunt Lisa Hughes of Center Valley, PA, maternal uncles, Bill Hughes (Tami) of Freeburg, IL, Patrick Hughes (Elisa) of Nuevo Arenal, Costa Rica, cousins, Spencer and Lauren Iversen, Kate and Rachel Hughes, Marielle, Harrison, and Madigan Egizio-Hughes, and Hunter and Archer Espinales-Hughes. Special extended family, Matt, Kerry, Jude and Georgia Abdallah, Uncle Ed Iversen, and bonus Colorado "cousins" Katie, Libby and David Thomas. Alex was preceded in death by his mother, Angie, and maternal aunts, Mary Ellen Hughes and Judy Dombroski. In light of the tragic, destructive fires in Boulder County, donations may be made to charities supporting the fire victims, or a charity of donor's choice. A memorial luncheon is scheduled for Tuesday, January 4. Cremation was performed.
