Alex Parrish Johnson

Alex "Parrish" Johnson, 90, of Brassfield, Kentucky, passed away Thursday December 4, 2025, in Berea Kentucky.
Parrish was born on January 01, 1935, in Richmond, Kentucky, to the late Harold and Mabel Bess Parrish Johnson. He was a 1953 graduate of Gratis High School in Gratis, Ohio, where he excelled in baseball and basketball. As an adult, his love for his school's sports programs extended to his active role as a Booster & beloved supporter of their athletic programs as a father and a coach.
Professionally, he spent thirty-eight years as a steelworker for Armco Steel retiring in 1991. After retirement, he came back to Richmond where he found joy on his family farm at Brassfield, Kentucky. He was a member of the Madison County Beef Cattle Association. He could often be found working, repairing, or welding tools and farm implements and was known for his collection of tools. Whether on the farm or around the community, he always had his faithful companion, a labrador retriever named Lucy, by his side.
His faith was also important to him, and he actively served his church family at The Panola Baptist Church, previously serving as Treasurer.
Survivors include his sons: Steve Johnson (Pam) of Middletown, Ohio and Joe Johnson (Melanie) of Brassfield; four grandchildren: Danny Combs (Danielle), Joey Johnson, Kyle Johnson and Ashley Johnson; three great-grandchildren; nephews: Tom, Pat and Stacy Johnson; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-two years, Mary Joyce "Joy" Johnson; daughter, Denise Marie Johnson Combs; brother, Ed Johnson; sister-in-law: Donna Lee and nephew Dana.
Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 pm Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, 328 West Main Street with Rev. Marvin Neal officiating. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM Wednesday morning at the funeral home. Burial will take place on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at 11:00 am in the Fairview Cemetery, Gratis, Ohio.
