Burley Burns Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home on Feb. 1, 2026.
Burley Burns, 80, of Richmond, passed away on Monday, January 26, 2026, in Richmond, Kentucky.

Burley was born on March 19, 1945, in Leslie County, Kentucky, to the late Pleas and Mae Burns. He had a long career at South East Coal Company. After South East Coal, he used his skill and work ethic to build a construction career as a builder and was a farmer for many years.

He was an avid outdoorsman that enjoyed trail riding, hunting, fishing, and spending time at the lake. Burley loved horses, horse shows, playing the banjo and a good bluegrass song. When music wasn't filling the air, he could entertain a room with his good sense of humor. Throughout his life, he loved dogs, specifically raising Bird Dogs and Dobermans during his children's childhoods, and in recent years, befriended what would become his beloved cat, "Kitty".

Burley also had a deep love of family. His children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were the joy of his life.

Survivors include daughter: Johna Alexander (Ronnie); granddaughters: Jacqulyn Howell (Andrew), Miranda Lainhart (Fred), and Rachel Edwards; great grandchildren: Claire Howell, Braxton Edwards, Stella Edwards, Olivia Howell, Millie Lainhart, Preston Dunaway, Dawson Howell, Hudson Howell, Heidi Dunaway, Connery Howell, and Mila Joy Lainhart; sister, Virginia Dennis; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Burley Joe Burns; his significant other, Darlene Luster; brothers: Eugene and Bobby Burns; and sister: Maxaline Weddle.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at the Combs, Parsons and Collins Funeral Home, 328 West Main Street, Richmond, KY, with Rev. Bill Fort officiating.

Visitation will be from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Braxton Edwards, Fred Lainhart, and his nephews. Honorary Pallbearers will be Evan Alexander, Gary Pensol and Mike Rose.
