Alex "Boom" McCray Jr. was born July 26, 1955, to the late Lula Mae Johnson of Wiggins, MS, and Alex McCray Sr. of Hattiesburg, MS. He departed this life on September 29, 2025, from health complications.

He was preceded in death by his wife Joyce Arrington, Son Alfredo McCray, sisters Eloise McCray, Letha McCray, Evon "Sally" McCray, Shirley McCray, and one brother, Melvin 'Puncho" McCray.

Boom-man, as friends called him, attended Locker High School and entered into Job Corp. Shortly after Job Corp, Alex, at the age of 17 he signed into the Marines. Boom-Man was a strong, tough guy who had much love for his entire family. A loving husband and father to his wife and kids. His friends describe him as a dependable and trustworthy person who helped anybody who was in need.

His memories are cherished by his son Christopher McCray and granddaughter Shameah McCray both of Wiggins, MS; three brothers, Purnell McCray, Terry McCray and Robert 'Bobby" McCray; four sisters, Merlene McCray, Cynthia Johnson, Sharon Johnson and Sanether Johnson; his aunt, Barbera Ann McCray-Davidson and his uncle Sam; and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
