Alex Peña Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Fairmount Funeral Home, Cemetery & Crematory on Jan. 20, 2026.
Alex G. Peña Jr., 75, of Lakewood, Colorado, unexpectedly passed away on January 18, 2026.

Alex was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. A joyful, considerate, and generous family man, he was best known for putting a smile on everyone's face and for commanding the attention of every room he entered. His warmth, humor, and presence left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

Alex G. Peña Jr. was born on September 7, 1950, in Pueblo, Colorado, to Sarah Nava Peña and Alex Peña Sr. He spent over 35 years working for the City of Aurora, where he built countless lifelong friendships and became one of the most well-known and respected individuals in the city.

He shared 54 wonderful years of marriage with the love of his life-his "Honey"-Rose Peña. Together, they raised three children: Frank, Sonya, and Karen.

Al had many passions throughout his life. He loved coaching his son, boxing, working out, and cheering on the Denver Broncos. Perhaps his most famous hobby was "going up the hill" and visiting Las Vegas-if you couldn't find him at home, he was likely in one of those two places.

Al is survived by his beloved wife, Rose Peña; his daughters, Sonya (Dean) Sandoval and Karen (Nathan) Lopez; his grandchildren, Alexis (Jason) Pettes, Ashley, Adrian, Adriana, Dean, Kayla, Brooklyn, and Elijah; and his great-grandchildren, Frankie, Raielle, Isabella, Justice, Jude, and Everlee. He is also survived by his siblings, Vicky (Leo) Sandoval, Dave (Lucy) Santos, Virginia "Cha Cha" Gonzalez, Christine (Ruben) Trujillo, Carol Quintana, Lawrence Peña, Bobby Peña, and Rosalie (Joe) Aragon, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sarah Nava Peña and Alex Peña Sr.; his son, Frank Peña; his siblings, Mary Lou Santos, Joe Santos, Lorraine LaChapelle, Darlene "Chilla" Jaramillo, and Mike "Sonny" Santos; his special niece Susan "Pebs" Gomez and nephew Robert "Bam" Gomez; and his special sister-in-law, Fran Santos.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, January 28, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by services from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. Burial will take place from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM. Reception to follow.

Alex will be deeply missed and forever remembered for the love he gave, the laughter he brought, and the legacy of family and joy he leaves behind.
