Alexander Monroe Doan, age 93 years, passed away peacefully on Friday, December26, 2025. He was born on October 3, 1932 in Bay City, the son of the late Monroe and Martha (Mills) Doan. Alex was raised in the home he and his family built. He learned carpentry from his father as his profession. He graduated from T.L. Handy High School in 1950. He proudly served in the Army as a battalion carpenter (special category Army, reassigned with the Air Force) from 1952 to 1954. He was then employed by General Motors as a machine operator/job setter and retired after 31 years.
In 1957, he married Nancy L. Delestowicz, the love of his life, who survives him, and together they raised 7 children. On October 5, 2025, they celebrated 68 years of marriage. Alex devoted his whole life to his wife and family.
Alex loved the outdoors, all wildlife, golfing and he was especially proud of the landscaping he did at every home he ever lived in. He created beautiful habitats for the birds he and Nancy took care of and loved. He was hardworking, respectful of women and he was always truthful.
In addition to his wife Nancy, Alex is survived by his children: James (Nancy) Doan, Barbara Warzynski, Sandi Cramer, Richard (Deborah) Doan, Janet (Mike) Lamont and Ronald Doan, all of Bay City, 27 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son David and his son-in-law Rick Warzynski as well as his parents, brother and sisters Duane, Donna, Gladys and Mary and his mother and father-in-law Irene and Vincent Delestowicz.
