Joan Wejsa Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Trahan Funeral Chapel & Prearrangement Center on Mar. 4, 2026.
Our beloved mother and grandmother, Joan Frances Wejsa, age 90, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, March 1, 2026 at the Bay Medical Care Facility. The daughter of the late Edward and Florence (Piechowiak) Tomczak, she was born on August 21, 1935 in Bay City and has resided here since. Joan was an exceptionally smart young woman and graduated from St. Stanislaus Kostka High School at the age of 16. While raising her family, she worked at Wolverine Knitting Mills and then worked as a legal secretary for several years at Braun Kendrick Finkbeiner Law in Saginaw.

In 2007 Joan sustained serious injuries as the result of a motor vehicle accident. While most doctors did not offer much hope, she was determined to overcome her physical obstacles. Strong-willed as Joan was, she was able to live independently and even took up driving again. For many years Joan was an avid hunter, enjoyed an occasional trip to the casino and liked to play cards. She was very good at making crafts and kept herself busy during retirement.

Joan was a loving and generous woman, deeply passionate and devoted to her family and friends, and an inspiration to many. She will be missed by those who knew her.

Joan is survived by three children, Debra Prueter, Pamela (Gary) Richardson and Sandra Wejsa; grandchildren, Donat' (Patricia) Ratell, Courtney (Dean) Spencer, Shay Luptowski, Samantha Prueter, Jay Richardson, Tiffany Kozlowski, Robert Richardson, Josh (Amanda) Dishaw and Melissa (Steve) Anderson; great grandchildren, Brendan, Lucas, Benjamin, Emma, Monreau, Kieran, Zoe, Seth, Jaylin, Jayson, Brayden, Tessa, Alivia, Caleb, Aubrey, Benson, Destiny and Landon; great-great grandchildren, Layla and Antonio; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Joan was also preceded in death by her son, Jeffrey Wejsa; a son-in-law, Neal Prueter; her former husband, Leonard Wejsa; and her longtime companion, Robert Perry.

It was Joan's desire for cremation to take place. A celebration of her life will be held later. Funeral home arrangements are being provided by Trahan Funeral Chapel. Celebrate Joan's life online by sharing your favorite stories and photos on her dedicated webpage at www.trahanfc.com
