It is with profound heartache we announce the passing of Alexander Joseph Herrera, who left us on March 20, 2025, at the age of 72. Alex Herrera is survived by Sandra Herrera, his loving wife of 35 years, his daughter Marina Herrera (Kurt); his siblings David Herrera (Teresa), Steven Herrera (Liz) and Maryann McCarthy (Dan), brother-in law Tommy Roberto (Lynne), sister-in-law Maryanne (Manuel). Uncle Alex enjoyed the love of his nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews, celebrating all their milestones. He leaves countless cousins, friends and neighbors. Loving son to Alexander and Lucille Herrera (D), devoted grandson to Joseph and Mary Clemente (D), and Alejandro and Matilde Herrera (D), and nephew to many Aunts and Uncles who welcome him with open arms. Alex was born on March 26,1953 in San Francisco, California. The oldest of four, he was affectionally nick-named Little Alex. Alex grew up in Noe Valley, moving to Portola District and attended St. Elizabeth's Elementary School and later graduated from Archbishop Riordan High School. Alex was creative, inventive, and always had an entrepreneurial drive. His love of cars led him to start his auto body businesses. From Mobile Auto Repair to A & A Automotive, he was able to combine his artistic abilities and skill, giving cars a new life. He went on to work for Muni and SF Chronicle ensuring their fleet looked pristine. We joked that Alex's favorite tool was Liquid Nails, he built things to last. He met the love of his life while helping a friend covering shifts at a classic San Francisco corner store in the Marina. Sandra Roberto lived across the street and frequented the store daily; the spark was undeniable. Alex and Sandra were together for 6 months and married on November 25, 1989. Together, they built a life full of love, laughter and cherished memories. Welcoming Marina Lynne, on November 4, 1994, the "Tri-Pod" was complete. He left his beloved San Francisco to raise Marina in Petaluma near cousins and family. Alex was a devoted husband and father, he would bring their countless ideas to life and created a home for them to enjoy. A relaxing Sunday for Alex was taking the 'Mary C' down the Petaluma River with his girls. Always known for his kind heart, generous spirit and quiet strength. Alex will be truly missed and forever remembered in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. Rest in peace, Alex Herrera. We will hold you in our hearts forever. A celebration of life for Alex Herrera will be on March 31, 2025, at 11:30 am at St. Vincent's Church, 35 Liberty Street, Petaluma. A reception immediately following the service at Hotel Petaluma, 33 Washington Street, Petaluma. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to a charity that is close to your hear
