Alexander Pedicino Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Louis C. Galzerano Funeral Home, Inc. - Philadelphia on Sep. 28, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Alexander (Al) R. Pedicino, M.D., 76, formerly of Huntingdon Valley, and most recently of Eagleville, passed away suddenly on September 26, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Volturarra Irpina, Italy, Al was the son of the late Michael and Michelina (nee DeCristofano). He immigrated to the United States of America on the Vulcania as an infant and grew up in Germantown. Al attended Our Lady of the Holy Rosary grade school and Cardinal Dougherty High School, class of 1967. When he was not studying he could be found, or beckoned by his father's whistle, at Waterview Recreation Center. Al graduated from St. Joseph's University in 1971 and went on to Thomas Jefferson Medical College, graduating with a Medical Degree in 1975. After three years of residency at Chestnut Hill Hospital, Al began his vocation as a Family Practice Physician in 1978 at Holy Redeemer Hospital where he devoted himself to caring for his patients. His life was defined by service, compassion and integrity. He was admired not only for his wisdom in Medicine but also for the kindness with which he treated every patient, colleague and friend. He had a true gift for making everyone feel seen and valued. He listened deeply, laughed easily and gave of himself freely.

Al danced through life with the love of his life, Rosemarie (nee Cerruti). Married for 53 years, together for 59, they built a home of unconditional love and unwavering support for each other and their children. Al was the proud father of Nicole, Michael, Matthew and Nicholas. Each of his children was the apple of his eye - he loved and celebrated each for who they are, how they enriched his life and the overwhelming love they gave to him in return. He assisted them in navigating through life's obstacles - never giving up and enstilling the family motto "Pedicino's Never Give Up." His life goal was to create memories that would last a lifetime - he was a constant in their lives as children and as adults - never missing a game, an award, a race or simple moment of "just being together."

Al was a welcoming father-in-law to Kate (nee Ferko), he opened his arms and heart to Kate, enveloping her into the family as one of his own.

Al's heart exploded with each of his three grandchildren - his greatest blessings, Kathryn, Domenico and Lena. Nothing brought a bigger smile to his face than his three angels. He was their biggest fan and never missed an opportunity to cheer them on.

Al spent his summers in Sea Isle City where he enjoyed sitting on the beach, talking with friends and buying the kids Fudgy Wudgy.

Al is survived by his wife Rose (nee Cerruti), his kids Nicole, Michael, Matthew (Kate), Nicholas and grandchildren, Kathryn, Domenico, Lena, as well as his brother, Anthony (Mary Jo) and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Wednesday, October 1st from 6 to 7:30pm at St. Albert the Great Church, 212 Welsh Road, Huntingdon Valley, PA 19006. There will be an additional viewing Thursday, October 2nd from 9 to 10:30am at the St. Albert the Great as well. His Funeral Mass will follow at 11am. Interment will take place at the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Cheltenham.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Al's name to either St. Joseph's Preparatory School or Mount Saint Joseph's Academy.

Dr. Pedicino was one in a million. He was "old school" and it was so rare & so great. He was my Dr. for 45 years. He treated my grandparents, my Mom, and many other family members. You always knew how much he loved his family, being a doctor, God and the Phillies...and hated computers! He really listened and was kind & funny, always. I was so sad when he retired, but so happy for him & his family. I wish he had more time to enjoy his retirement. He surely is with the angels now...thank you Dr Pedicino for being the "BEST". Rose and your whole family are in my prayers. Ps I hope there are no computers in heaven.

I first met Al in 1967 , our first week at St Joseph´s College when we started the Pre Med program . We studied together over the next 8 years first at St Joes then another 4 years at Jefferson Medical College.
Al was my best man in my marriage to Eileen and was my son Brian´s God father . We had a close relationship over almost 60 years . I´m devastated by the loss of a wonderful friend who I loved as a brother. I will always remember him for his intellect, compassion and total lack of any pretense in his life . My heart goes out to Rose , his wonderful children and grandchildren . It is difficult to accept the death of someone who had such a large presence in life . His patients adored him because he always treated them with professionalism, empathy and respect.
God Bless Al and the Pedicino Family

In 1979 after taking time off to be with our young children, I returned to work at Holy Redeemer. I was looking for a family physician and asked several fellow nurses who they would recommend. Every single one answered with the same name, Dr. Pedicino!
That in itself is quite a testament to him. Having "Dr. P" as our physician for nearly 45 years was a true blessing. In addition to his excellent clinical skills, he showed a great deal of kindness & compassion throughout our long time together. Shortly after Dr. Pedicino retired, Alan, my husband of nearly 54 years died. Shortly thereafter my home phone rang. When I answered I heard Dr. P´s voice, expressing his condolences and asking how I was doing. He had a way of lifting me up, even in my hardest times. As I write I have no doubt there is a huge reunion going on in heaven with all the patients he cared for and who loved him, including Alan, celebrating his life and welcoming him home.
My deepest condolences go out to Rosemarie and all of the family he so deeply loved.

My heart is broken. He was a friend, a confidante, a cheerleader and always the best family doctor around. The world lost a good one. To quote my son, "He was a legend." My love and heartfelt condolences to the Pedicino Family. I am praying for all of you.

Dr. Pedicino was truly a Family Physician. I knew him for 45 years as a nurse and as a patient. He always reminded me of a caring, kind, and excellent old time country doctor. As physicians once did, he too hung out his beautiful traditional wood shingle "Alexander R.Pedicino MD" . It hung on the wall of his 301 waiting room. He was a traditional doctor. He knew his patients, not only their medical problems but he knew them by their first name, he knew their likes and dislikes, he knew their professions, he knew about their families, he knew about them. He was a philly sports fan and loved to talk about the Eagles and Phillies with his patients. A fan of the computer he was not, and as he said it was not going to stop him from being the kind of physician he wanted to be, a Family Doctor, who knew his patients and their families. Thank you Dr Pedicino. God bless you and your family. I am certain that in heaven God has welcomed you and hung a wooden shingle outside a beautiful mansion reserved for you "Alexander R. Pedicino MD"

Our family is deeply saddened by the passing of Dr. Pedicino.

He was more than just a doctor; he was a steadfast presence in our lives for over four decades. My parents were among his very first patients when he started his practice at Holy Redeemer, as was my paternal grandmother.

My recent years bringing my mother to her appointments after my father's passing allowed me to see his wonderful spirit up close again. His big smile, warm hug, and calling us by name instantly made us feel cared for. My mother, in particular, absolutely adored him and looked forward to every visit. His kindness, gentleness, and compassion made him a truly exceptional doctor and person.

His retirement was difficult for my mother, a testament to the strong bond he forged with his patients. We will miss him terribly and send our deepest condolences to his family and colleagues.
