Alexander F. Veto
Age 74 of Wilmington
Born June 17, 1951 - Passed away on August 28, 2025.
Alex was born in Turnersville, New Jersey to the late Alexander and M. Dolores (Tempone) Veto. He was a devoted son and an adored brother, affectionally called "Butch" by his sisters and nephews. He was also a loving husband and wonderful uncle who made a tremendous impact on the lives of all those around him.
Alex taught at Oak Knoll School in Williamstown, NJ from 1980 to 1986 after a period working for the Railroad in Camden. He was a math teacher for 7th and 8th grade as well as the boys' basketball coach. During this time he became interested in traveling to England. He spent five or six weeks in London in the early 80's during his summer breaks.
His love of travel inspired him on to apply for a teaching position with the Department of Defense Education Activity, where he oversaw the education of children whose parents were on active duty in the military around the world. Alex spent one year in La Maddalena, Italy, before being transferred to the high school in Bamberg, Germany. While there Alex met the love of his life Priscilla Coffman. They were married on June 30, 1990.
Alex was later transfer to Vilseck, Germany where he continued to teach U.S. History and remained certified in other areas. During this time, he was elected to numerous positions starting as a building representative and going all the way up to a European Regional Union Leader. This was a full-time union job which took him out of the classroom. His role was to trouble shoot issues in the Union. His work often took him across Europe to support schools, assist administrators, and help solve challenges for staff.
Throughout his career Alex never lost his love of coaching and continued to coach boys' basketball and even girls' cheerleading in a pinch.
Alex retired along with his wife in 2018 and settle in Delaware to be near his beloved racetrack, Delaware Park. They lived in New Castle, Delaware for five years prior to moving to Wilmington.
Priscilla passed away in 2023 and Alex spent the last two years of his life mourning her.
In addition to his wife Alex was preceded in death by his parents.
He will be dearly missed by his sisters, Patty Seaman (David) and Nancy McKee; his nephews, Michael and Matthew Seaman, who cherished the times they spent together watching Phillies games; and Priscilla's children, Leslie and Chris. Alex is also survived by an extended loving family and many friends all over the world.
Family and friends are invited to the graveside service for Alex on September 25, 2025 at 10:30 at Glebe Cemetery, 1 Glebe Lane, New Castle DE 19720.
