Alfonza Mack Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mountcastle Turch Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. - Dale City on Feb. 16, 2026.
Alfonza Jacob Mack was called home on Sunday, February 1, 2026. Born on April 1, 1936, in Cross, South Carolina, alongside a twin sister, to the late Rev. Robert Mack and Mrs. Ethel Guest Mack. Alfonza was raised with four brothers and three sisters: brothers Joseph, Henry (Patricia), Robert, and Arthur Lee (Angie); and sisters Cloie Mack, Junerous Whitten (Lawrence), and his twin, Mary Albertha Mack Woodley. In 1957, Alfonza married the love of his life, Truenetta DeVelle.

Alfonza lived his life fully with integrity, compassion, and an overwhelming sense of joy and gratitude. He radiated positivity everywhere he went, which continues to emanate from each person he touched. There was never a day when he sulked or let circumstances change how he showed up in the world. Most people who met Alfonza left their conversation with a smile. His playful sense of humor, mile-wide smile, contagious laugh, earnest advice, and unconditional love will forever be felt and cherished. Making people feel special and seen was his natural gift. This gift directly reflects his deep devotion to his faith. The Bible teaches us to love like Jesus, unconditionally, fervently, and always. Alfonza embodied that very love every day.

A respected real estate entrepreneur and a pillar of his community, Alfonza opened the Community Barber Shop in Spring Valley, New York, in 1965. The shop quickly became more than a business - it was a gathering place where people from all walks of life came to talk, laugh, share stories, and support one another. As a Freemason and an active participant in community life, he remained committed to uplifting those around him and serving wherever he was needed. He also enjoyed following his favorite New York teams - the Knicks, Jets, and Yankees.

In 2005, Alfonza and Truenetta moved to Dumfries, Virginia, to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Alfonza learned to play chess from his then-8-year-old grandson Dylan, and he fell in love with the game. He enjoyed reading books about chess and playing online with family and friends or in person at the community clubhouse, where he also enjoyed playing pool. Win or lose, he was happy to share a game he loved with the people he loved.

Alfonza spent several decades as an active member of his community and at First Mount Zion Baptist Church, where he faithfully served as an usher and as a member of the Men's Choir, Seniors' Ministry, and Men's Ministry.

Above all, he loved his family. Alfonza always called to check in and wish happy birthday to each of his children, grandchildren, siblings, and 16 nieces and nephews. At the center of his life was his relationship with his wife, which he took great pride in, built on devotion, patience, and love. He reveled in the accomplishments of his children and was profoundly proud of the man and woman they became.

Alfonza is survived by his devoted wife of 69 years, Truenetta; his daughter, Brenda Jamerson (Dwight); his son, Darrell Mack (Cherie); three grandchildren: Randall Jamerson, Brittany Mack, and Dylan Mack; and bonus grandson Rustin Jamerson (Janette).

Flowers may be sent to the funeral home. Mountcastle Turch Funeral Home, 4143 Dale Blvd. Dale City, VA 22193.
