ROBERT LOUIS THOMPSON, affectionately known as "Louis," was born on April 4, 1943, in
Iuka, Mississippi. He was the first
of five children born to Robert "Bob" and Nancy Thompson. On January 21, 2026, Louis peacefully transitioned to eternal life,
leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unforgettable stories.
From an early age, Louis developed a love for sports and competition. As a young man, he enjoyed playing soccer, a passion that
stayed with him throughout his life as a devoted sports fan. He loved watching games, sharing commentary, and engaging in
spirited conversations about his favorite teams.
Louis spent his childhood years in
Iuka, Mississippi, before moving with his parents and siblings to France, an experience that
broadened his world and created lifelong memories. The family later settled in New Jersey, where Louis continued to build the
foundation of a life centered around family and connection.
He went on to work at the commissary at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, where he remained until his retirement. Known for his
reliability and warm personality, Louis was respected by coworkers and appreciated by all who crossed his path.
Louis was an amazing storyteller. He had a special way of bringing moments to life, especially when sharing stories about
growing up with his brothers Earl and Jerome and his cousin Gene Jr. His stories were full of humor, detail, and heart, and they
never failed to make people laugh. If Louis was in the room, joy was not far behind.
Family meant everything to him. Louis was generous by nature, always willing to help others and give of himself without
hesitation. He also formed deep bonds beyond blood, and he was blessed with neighbors who became family. Dale Hawkins
and Jamal Hawkins lovingly watched over Louis and helped him along the way, offering care, companionship, and support that
meant more to him than words could express.
He held a particularly special place in his heart for his niece Jordyn. One of his most cherished stories was from a time when he
was ill and Jordyn, as a little girl, came downstairs every day to hug his neck. Louis often said those daily hugs gave him hope
and the courage to heal, and he truly believed she saved his life.
Louis had a deep love for oldies-but-goodies music, watching sports, visiting family, and making everyone around him smile.
His laughter was contagious, his presence comforting, and his genuine love.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Nancy and Robert "Bob" Thompson; his siblings, Jerome Olen Thompson, Monica
Thompson Davis, and Arthur Earl Thompson (Rebecca Smith Thompson).
Louis leaves behind a family who will forever cherish his memory: his sister, Paulette Thompson Bennett; four nieces, Tara
O'Neil (Terrence), Brandi Fowler (Zach), Shanee Davis, and Jordyn Davis; one nephew, Anthony Thompson; and a host of
extended family members, friends, and loved ones whose lives were better because he was part of them.
Louis lived a life filled with love, laughter, and meaningful connections. His stories, his generosity, and his joyful spirit will
continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Rest peacefully, Louis. You will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished.
