Alfred R. Cureton, 90, of Moore, SC passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on Friday, December 27, 2024.
Al was born in Pickens, SC, a son of the late James Henry and Bernice Robinson Cureton. Al was a graduate of Central High School where he played on the state championship football team. Following his graduation, he entered the Korean War, serving in the US Army Military Police. Following his service in the military, Al entered Clemson College, and then began work at Pratt-Read Company and then Imperial Dye. Al laterbegan his career as a policeman with the Clemson University Police Department from where he retired. He and his beloved wife Beverly lived most of their lives in Central, SC and were very involved with the community. Al coached youth sports, served on the Central Town Council, served meals for Pickens County Meals on Wheels, and spent many years working with his wife with the Central Historical Society. While in Central,Al and Beverly were very active members of Lawrence Chapel United Methodist Church. After moving to Moore, SC, theybecame members of the Sharon Methodist Church in Moore.
Al is survived by his daughters, Debbie Williamson and her husband, Marty of Suwanee, GA; Lynn Skelton and her husband, B.J. of Six Mile, SC; and Cindy Arnold, of Seneca, SC; his son, Bill Cureton and his wife Lisa of Moore, SC; his brother, Judge Robert Cureton of Greenwood, SC; grandchildren, Brian (Debbie) Williamson, Jessica Williamson, Katie (Evan) Metrock, Ryan (Kenzie) Newton, Kimberly Newton, Nick (Theresa) Newton, Allison Arnold, Victoria (Seth) Seidner, Haylee Cureton and Hampton Cureton; and 10 great grandchildren.
Al was predeceased by his wife, Beverly Boggs Cureton; his parents; his brothers, James Henry Cureton, Jr and John Charles Cureton; and his sisters, Helen Smith and Lydia Smith.
Memorial services will be held at 11 AM, Thursday, January 2, 2025 in the chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, 108 Cross Creek Road, Central, SC 29630 with a graveside committal service at Memory Gardens in Clemson following the memorial service.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 10:50 AM, Thursday prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Pickens County Meals on Wheels, 349 Edgemont Avenue, Liberty, SC 29657.
