He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 42 years, Paula Easterling, his devoted son Alfred B. Easterling III and daughter Nivia Easterling, his brother- in-law Roger Yopp, his nieces Latasha Easterling-Turnquest and her husband Dana, Dea White and her husband Lamar Sr., and Shaelyn Yopp-Velasquez and her husband Mel, his nephew Saeed Jackson, his aunt Rosemarie Easterling, his uncles Michael Easterling and his wife Venice, and Theodore Easterling, his godmother Irene Gray, god sisters and brothers; Betty Jean Gray, Robert Lee Gray, Eunice Eileen Gray, Gail Gray, Derrick Gray, Yvonne Gray, and Michael Gray, a host of cousins, and many other loving relatives and caring friends.
Alfred was primarily educated in the public school system of Hartford, CT, and became a graduate of A.I. Prince Technical High School in 1978. Directly after graduating, he enlisted in the Army, where he served for 8 years as a tactical satellite operator, achieving the rank of sergeant before being honorably discharged. While serving in the military, Alfred married the love of his life, Paula Easterling on December 28, 1982. They lived together in Germany for over 2 years, where they had their first born son, Alfred, before moving back state side to their home in Bloomfield, CT, shortly after the birth of their daughter Nivia. Alfred was very cultured in music, and fine cooking, which he passed down to his children. As a life learner and one who always sought knowledge, he devoted quality time taking the journey with his son to secure Master Mason and Royal Arch Degrees. Alfred was employed for over 20 years with the United States Postal Service before retiring. After retiring from the postal service, Alfred continued his education, earning two Associate degrees, after which he spent a considerable amount of time volunteering at homeless shelters and doing volunteer work for veterans with Masonicare.
He will be remembered for his warmth, smile, fierce sense of humor, caring nature, love of life, ability to move with strength and grace, and his profound love for his family and closest friends.
A special thanks goes to the staff of Pansy Homecare in West Hartford, and the Masonicare Hospice Nursing staff in Glastonbury for their thoughtful and compassionate care of our loved one.
