Alfred "Al" Mandarelli, 74, of Newport, passed away on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at Carteret Health Care with his family by his side. He was the son of the late Alfred and Shirley Mandarelli and the son in law of the late Salvatore and Mary Tanzi.
Alfred was the husband of Susan (Tanzi) Mandarelli for the past 45 years. He was the proud father of Brian, Jeffery, and Monica; proud Papa of Anthony, Brian, Ali, and Gina; the father in law of Kim, and Papa in law of Abby. He also was the brother in law of Sal Tanzi, and the nephew of Carol Lisi. Al worked for Amtrak for 34 years. His career started as a laborer before becoming a foreman and finishing as a supervisor. He started and completed the Northend Electrification (Acela Express Project) from Boston, MA to New Haven, CT for Amtrak. He was so proud of that project. He was the past President, Board Member, Coach, and Manager for the Silver Lake/Olneyville Little League. As Al would say,” Those were the best years of my life”. He loved those kids. In 1987, he was the Assistant Coach for the team that played for the District Finals. Although they didn’t win the title, he was so proud of the team.
Al also leaves behind many friends and cousins. His love and compassion was felt by many from family, friends, and neighbors. From coaching to supporting his family he was always there, his memory will never be forgotten. He will be missed.
