Alfred Wayne Murphree, 85, of Tillar, Arkansas, left his earthly home Wednesday, May 28, 2025. He passed peacfully with his wife by his side holding his hand. Alfred was born in McGehee, Arkansas, November 29, 1939, to the late Leslie Adam "LA" and Della Mae Burton Murphree.
As an avid outdoorsman, Alfred found joy in hunting and fishing. He also loved to prepare meals for his loved ones, whether it be just for himself and his wife, family and friends, a group of daycare kids, or the whole church congregation. He was a man of great faith, he took every opportunity to lead others to God, by sharing his testimony. He was a member and trustee of Liberty Baptist Church of Mcgehee. Most of all Alfred loved his family and his loving wife, Sandy, or "Dumplin" as he would call her.
Alfred was the epitome of hard work and dedication. He worked for 38 years at Wells-Lamont before working another 20 years as Tillar Water Department. He didnt stop there, he would also make a trip to town to cook lunch for Sandy and the kids at Little Dumplin's. He became "PawPaw" to many children there and touched the lives of each and every one. His calm presence and kind heart was a source of comfort to all who knew him.
Alfred is preceeded in death by his parents, four brothers, Glen, Jessie, James, and Richard Murphree, as well as two sisters, Mary Haugenter, and Jenny Vee Woods. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Sandra Johnson Murphree of Tillar, and his brother Lynn Murphree (Vera Ann) of Tillar. Alfred and Sandy were blessed with a set of twins, bonus daughters, Allison Harrison Lockwood (Jacob) and Anna Beth Harrison Walley (Cody) both of Crossett, Arkansas. Then came the bonus grandchildren, Layton Walley, Eli Walley, and Charlee Jo Lockwood, all of Crossett. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and Dumplin' grands.
His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and many more whose lives were touched by him. We ask that you remember him for the way his life was lived, and for the profound impact it had on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
A visitation will be held on Friday, May, 30, 2025, 5:00-7:00 pm, at Griffin-Culpepper Funeral Service in McGehee, Arkansas.. A celebration of Alfred's life will take place at Tillar Cemetary on Saturday, May 31, 2025, 10:00am. Pallbearers will include Joe Robertson, Tyler Robertson, Richie Murphree, Cody Walley. Jacob Lockwood, Matthew Jollie, Austin Harrison and Travis Murhpree.
