Stephanie Murphree Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carnes Funeral Home - Texas City on Jul. 9, 2025.
Stephanie Ann Murphree, of Rosenberg, Texas, was a loving and devoted wife,
daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. The Lord took her on July 2, 2025, at the age
of 38 after struggling with cancer for two-and-a-half-years. Stephanie was born
to Donald and Patricia Schreiber in Bellingham, Washington on February 18,
1987. She lived most of her childhood in Stephenville, Texas where she
graduated high school in 2005. She attended Centenary College of Louisiana,
where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Music and Psychology. After
graduating, she spent a year in Ichinohe, Japan as an assistant English teacher.
Returning from Japan, Stephanie pursued her education even further by earning
a master's degree in Library and Information Science from the University of
North Texas, in Denton. She worked for Fort Bend County Libraries for fourteen
years.
She married William Murphree in 2014. She was immensely proud of his ministry
and ordination as a United Methodist elder. Their marriage was full of love and
laughter.
She had a lifelong love of reading, hymns, mythology, musicals, and food –
eating it and cooking it. She was adventurous in that regard. She enjoyed her
seasons playing her bassoon with the Rosenberg Symphonic Band, and singing
in various church choirs. She was pretty good with a sewing machine, too. She
also enjoyed jigsaw puzzles. And she definitely shared William's love of their
precious dog, Lucy.
In addition to her devoted husband, William, Stephanie is survived by her
parents, Donald and Trish Schreiber of Warren, TX; William's parents, Mike and
Lisa Murphree of Tupelo, MS; Steph's older sister, Rani Tate, of League City, TX;
and her family, Rani's husband, Robert Tate, and daughter, Bethany, and son,
Samuel, all of League City, TX; Stephanie's brother-in-law, Jason Murphree; and
his wife Anna of Corinth, MS; and their children, Wyatt, Declan, and Coraline.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at St. John's United Methodist in
Richmond, TX on July 19th at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, please consider
making a donation to Helping Hands (Richmond, TX), Compassion International,
or your local public library.

I've worked with Stephanie since the day she was hired at Fort Bend County Libraries. We "grew up" in the system together and have shared many fun memories through the years. Memories that I will cherish forever. Stephanie is one of the kindest, most thoughtful and caring people I've ever known. She had a way of making me see the more positive aspects of life and different perspectives. I will miss her humor and playfulness in our silly group chat. I feel so fortunate to have been one of her friends. I am better for having known her.

Dear William and family, I worked now and again with Stephanie over the years, but even in those brief moments she struck me as someone kind, bright, funny and warm. I'm so sorry for your loss, and I'm glad to have known her.

I want to give my condolences to the family and friends. I knew Stephanie to always have a sun shine smile on her face when you came in contact with her. She always had funny jokes that will make you laugh. She is truly going to be missed. She's with the Heavenly Father now in a beautiful place.

Dear William & family,

I worked with Steph for many years at the library. She was always a ray of sunshine. She always had a smile and a kind word for everyone. Steph exuded God's love at all times. I know that she loved her family very much. Some of the light has gone out of this world with her passing, but I know that her light is shining bright in heaven where she is safe and pain-free with her wonderful Savior. I will miss her very much. My love and prayers are with you all at this sad time.
