Dr. Robert Joseph Miciotto, born March 1, 1938, and passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at the age of 87.

A native of Shreveport, Louisiana, Dr. Miciotto spent the majority of his life in his hometown. He was a graduate of St. John's High School, Centenary College, and the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland, where he received his Ph.D. in the history of medicine in 1979. Dr. Miciotto served for many years on the faculty of Louisiana State University in Shreveport, where he taught history and the history of medicine.

Dr. Miciotto was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Gaynell Lee Miciotto, and by his son, Robert "Jay" Joseph Miciotto, Jr.

He is survived by his daughter, Belinda Miciotto Bane and husband, Chris; his son, Stewart Bradley Miciotto and wife, Veena; and his grandson, Robert Austin Smith. He is also survived by his sisters, Bridget Ann Miciotto and Janet Miciotto Brooks; and his brother, Timothy Wayne Miciotto and wife, Leah.

A private graveside service will be held at Forest Park, East Cemetery. The service will be officiated by Dr. Tom Harrison of Broadmoor Baptist Church.

The family extends their sincere appreciation for the compassionate care provided by LSU Health Shreveport, Ochsner's Amedisys, and the nursing staff, particularly Amanda, Bettye, Mimi, Jodie, and Lisa. They also wish to thank his special friends, Laurie Conerly, Brian Sherman, Domenica Carriere, and Laura Upshaw, for their kindness and support.
