Matthew Russo Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Osborn Funeral Home - Shreveport on Feb. 17, 2026.
Matthew "Matt" Nicholas Russo, 47, a resident of Shreveport, LA passed away on February 12, 2026. Matt was born on April 16, 1978, in Bossier City, Louisiana. He was a cherished son, brother, uncle and friend.
Matt attended St. John Berchmans Catholic School and Cope Middle School before graduating from Airline High School. He received his Bachelors Degree from the University of Louisiana Lafayette. He worked for Kansas City Southern Railroad and later with FedEx. He was known as kind, hardworking, and loyal- someone you could always count on.
Outside of work, Matt embraced the outdoors and the simple joys of life. He loved hunting, riding bikes, walking his beloved dog Rudy, and spending time woodworking. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing baseball and was a dedicated member of a competitive shooting team. Whether on the field, in the woods, or in his workshop, Matt brought focus, passion, and quiet determination to everything he did.
Above all, Matt cherished his family. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Albin and Tudelle Young and his paternal grandfather, John A. Russo, Sr. He is survived by his paternal grandmother, Beatrice Russo; his loving mother, Stephanie Russo; his father, John A. Russo, Jr., and stepmother, Betty Russo; his sister Amy Russo Papa and her husband, Brandon Papa; and his treasured niece and nephews, Marguerite, Pierce, and Roman Papa. He leaves behind family and friends who will deeply miss his presence, his steady spirit, and the memories they shared.
A funeral mass celebrated by Fr. James McLelland will be held on Saturday, February 21 at 10:00am at St. John Berchmans Cathedral, 921 Jordan Street, Shreveport, LA. Interment will follow immediately after the mass at Forest Park East Cemetery, 3700 St. Vincent Ave., Shreveport, LA.
