Catherine Mackey Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by James Crowder Funeral Home - La Marque on Feb. 13, 2026.
Catherine Ann Mackey
"Kitty"
April 19, 1931- February 3, 2026

Catherine "Kitty" Ann Fagan Mackey was born on Sunday, April 19, 1931, in Brooklyn, New York. She lived in Brooklyn until she was two years of age, at which time her family moved to Staten Island. A child of the Great Depression, she was shaped by an era that called for strength, perseverance, and resilience, qualities that would define her life. After graduating from high school, Kitty began working at the Royal Bank of Canada in New York City. It was during this time that she met the love of her life, Tom Mackey. They married in 1955 and built a life centered on family, raising seven beautiful children.

In 1957, Kitty moved her family to Texas City, Texas, in support of Tom's career. She was quickly welcomed by the Texas City and Galveston communities, made life-long friends, and called Texas City her home. However, Kitty never forgot her New York roots. She returned to Staten Island often to visit family, friends, and her favorite places. Deeply devoted to her faith, Kitty was an active member of St. Mary's Church and proudly served in St. Ann's Altar Group. Kitty ensured her children received a Catholic education, and she took great pride in seeing each of them graduate from college. In her free time, she was an avid reader and gardener and loved spending time with her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Mackey; her parents, Madeline and William Fagan; her sister, Madeline Donnelly; five brothers-in-law, and one sister-in-law. She is survived by her seven children and their spouses: Tom and Patti Mackey, Karen and Trey Apffel, Doris and Mark Dillon, Susan and Jim Hart, Kathy and Michael Adams, Michael and Betsy Mackey, and Ellen and Joe Chuoke. She is also survived by 26 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 13 grandchildren's spouses, numerous nieces and nephews, her childhood friend Joan Taylor, and three sisters-in-law. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons Ross Apffel, Joseph Chuoke, Mackey Chuoke, Alan Chuoke, Wyatt Chuoke, Brian Dillon, Wes Dillon, Reid Dillon, David Mackey, and Thomas Mackey, as well as her great-grandson, Gavin Dillon.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 19 th at St. Mary of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church, 1604 9th Ave N, Texas City, Texas, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow at Forest Park East Cemetery, 21620 Gulf Freeway, Webster, Texas.

Memorials may be made to Moore Memorial Public Library, 1701 9th Ave. North, Texas City, Texas 77590, Texas or to the Fatima Education Foundation, P.O. Box 2159, Texas City, Texas 77590.

Special thanks to her compassionate and devoted caregivers: Tomasa, Denise, LaKeissha, Patricia, Coco, and Tunja
