Alfred Francis Schmidt, a beloved member of the Starlight community and a devoted family man, passed away on June 24, 2025, at the age of 92. Born in Starlight, Indiana, on September 13, 1932, Alfred led a life characterized by hard work, dedication, and a passion for the land he cherished.
An Army veteran, Alfred served his country with honor before returning to the workforce, where he held various skilled jobs throughout his life. Notably, at Jeff Boat and Koetter Construction, yet his true passion lay in farming. Alfred took great pride in tending his land, finding solace and fulfillment in the beauty of nature and the fruits of his labor.

Together, they built a nurturing home for their children: Debbie (Mike) Stith, Carol (Marc) Andry, Terry (Cathy) Schmidt, Angie Blackman, Dennis Schmidt, Alfred (Kim) Schmidt Jr., and Jackie (Tony) Hughes. He is also survived by his siblings, Jim (Janet) Schmidt, Rosella Bickel, Bob (Linda) Schmidt, and Marvin (Lisa) Schmidt, along with a cherished legacy of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and future great-great-grandchildren who will carry forward his memory.
Alfred was predeceased by his parents, Pete Schmidt and Anna Glotzbach Schmidt, as well as his sister, Martha Stumler, and brother, William "Butch" Schmidt.
