Alfred Van Dyken, age 90, of Southbury, CT and formerly of Trumbull, CT passed away May 15, 2022. He was born in Astoria, NY to the late Alfred and Friederike Van Dyken. Mr. Van Dyken served his country in Army Intelligence during the Korean conflict. Mr. Van Dyken graduated from The Cooper Union and received his Master's Degree from the University of Bridgeport. He was a mechanical engineer having worked for Singer Metrics, Sieber-Hagner, Lanco, Electrolux and Black and Decker. Mr. Van Dyken was an active member of the community, serving as past treasurer of the Trumbull Lion's Club and past member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church. He spent the last eight years of his life at the Pomperaug Woods Community in Southbury, CT where he was president of the Resident's council and was a founding member of the BYOG (Bring Your Own Glass) club, and was recognized by many folks because of his constant companion Chrissy, his beloved Beagle.
He enjoyed tennis, gardening, woodworking, art and good scotch accompanied by a good joke. He will be greatly missed.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Eleanore Stuehring Van Dyken and his brother Walter Van Dyken.
Survivors include his devoted children Karen Obuchowski and her husband Joseph, Lenore Cortina and her husband Henry, and Douglas Van Dyken and his wife Kathryn, his sister-in-law Corrine Stuehring; nine loving grandchildren; fourteen cherished great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Friends and family are invited to attend his graveside service on Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. at St. Monica's Mausoleum at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 1056 Daniels Farm Rd. Trumbull.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
