Mrs. Alfreda DiGeronimo passed away peacefully on Friday afternoon July 25, 2025 at with her husband at her side at the age of seventy-seven. She was affectionately known to family and friends as "Freddi".
Freddi was born in Hackensack and raised in Fairlawn, part of a large extended family that she loved to be around. She lived her teenage years in Tampa, Florida and graduated from Chamberlain High School. Freddi continued her education at Florida State University where she was an active member in the Tri-Sigma Sorority. In 1971, she married Michael DiGeronimo, started a family together and spent time living in Arizona and Minnesota before returning home to New Jersey.
While raising her young family, she worked to obtain her master's degree from Rutgers University. Freddi had a lengthy career in the Franklin Township Public School System where she began teaching elementary school at MacAfee Road School and Elizabeth Avenue School. Freddi continued her career in the district as an Administrator; she was the Supervisor of LAL K-5, Supervisor of Early Childhood, Supervisor of Academic Support K-5 and Librarians K-5. She retired after over 20 years in the district, known for mentoring students and teachers alike.
Freddi lived in Somerset for a number of years where she was a member of St. Matthias Church, teaching CCD and baptism preparation classes. She also was a member and board member of the Cedar Hill Swim Club, where she spent many enjoyable summers with her family and close friends. She later moved to Montgomery Township. The family became members of St. Charles Borromeo Church, where she was active in prayer groups, helped prepare meals for families, and taught CCD.
Freddi enjoyed traveling throughout the United States to visit our national parks and loved being a part time resident of Ocean City, New Jersey. A true beach lover, she always had her eyes out for a perfect seashell to add to her collection.
Freddi was predeceased by her parents Alfred and Angelina Leibundguth, and sister, Madeleine Holm.
She is survived by her husband of fifty-four years, Michael DiGeronimo and their children, Michael Scott DiGeronimo and his wife Tara, Joanna Campione and her husband Sal, and Sarah Oliveira and her husband Luis. She is also survived by her sister, Barbara Hatch, and her grandchildren who she affectionately referred to as her "seven jewels": Salvatore, Cassandra, Anna, Megan, Nicholas, Thomas, and Carla.
Visiting will take place on Wednesday July 30, 2025 from 4-7 PM at Gleason Funeral Home 1360 Hamilton Street in Somerset. Services will begin on Thursday at the funeral home at 9:30 AM followed by a 10:30 AM mass at St. Charles Borromeo Church 47 Skillman Lane in Skillman. Graveside services will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution in Freddi's name to
