Alfredo Oliva Jr., 51, a lifelong resident of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2025. Born in Phoenix, Alfredo Jr.’s heart was rooted in Sunnyslope, where he built a life close to his family. Pelón, as his friends and family called him, is survived by his daughter, Lea Oliva, 17; his son, Sebastian Oliva, 25; his father, Alfredo Oliva Sr., and his stepmother, Debbie Oliva; his brothers, Gabriel, Miguel, and Roberto Oliva; and his grandmother, Hortencia Oliva.
Despite battling diabetes, which led to the need for a kidney transplant, Alfredo faced his health challenges with the encouragement and support of his longtime girlfriend, Cristy Gonzales, and her family. His health struggles began with diabetes, which eventually necessitated a kidney transplant. After the transplant, Alfredo suffered from Guillain-Barré syndrome, an autoimmune condition causing debilitating paralysis. With Cristy’s help, he eventually overcame this challenging condition.
Alfredo proudly supported Lea’s High School and College education along with Sebastian’s musical and entrepreneurial spirit.
Alfredo shared a tight bond with his brothers, often reminiscing about their Sunnyslope childhood. A proud graduate of Sunnyslope High School and Phoenix College, Alfredo forged lifelong friendships in the community.
A self-taught computer repair enthusiast, Alfredo enjoyed tinkering with computers, repairing them for friends and family with a smile. Music was his soul’s expression; a self-taught guitarist, he filled his home with melodies, teaching his children the joy of music.
A huge Michael Jordan fan, Alfredo recorded all Chicago Bulls games in the 1990s, collecting memorabilia and sharing his admiration for Jordan’s tenacity with his children.
A viewing and open sharing for Alfredo will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2025, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Road, Phoenix, AZ 85018.
