José Louis Torres Espindola, 85, passed away peacefully at his home in Phoenix on November 16, 2025. Born on January 25, 1940, in Phoenix, he was a proud native Phoenician whose life was deeply rooted in service, family, and community.
Louis was married to his beloved wife, Jennie Espindola, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and commitment. He was the son of Magdalena Espindola, whose strength and values guided him throughout his life.
A Marine veteran, Louis served his country with honor before beginning a long and distinguished career with the Phoenix Police Department, where he later retired. After retiring, he continued his dedication to public service through his work with the Arizona Department of Gaming.
Louis was a founder of the Brotherhood of Mexican American Peace Officers, an organization that later became part of the National Latino Peace Officers Association (NLPOA). His leadership and advocacy left a lasting legacy within the law enforcement community.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Magdalena, and his younger brothers, Raul and Bobby.
Louis is survived by his wife, Jennie; his children Louie John (Christine), Chris, and Richard (Misha); his grandchildren Jeremy, Andrea, Kamio, Chris, and Gabriel; his great-granddaughter Myla; and his brothers Lupe (Marilyn) and Lionel (Kristi).
Louis will be remembered for his loyalty, courage, and unwavering love for his family and community. His influence and legacy will continue to shine through the many lives he touched.
A visitation will be held from 4 PM - 7 PM with a rosary recitation at 6 PM on Sunday, November 23rd at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 East Indian School Road, Phoenix, Arizona 85018. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, November 24, 2025 at 11 AM at St. Benedict Catholic Church at 16223 S 48th St, Phoenix, AZ 85048. Burial to follow at 12:45 PM at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, 2033 N 48th St, Phoenix, AZ 85008.
