Algjuan Hixon, age 65, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, passed away on December 28th,

2025, in Minneapolis. Born on September 2, 1960, to Alphonso Hixon and Betty Jean Owens Hixon, Aljuan was raised on the east side of Birmingham, Alabama. He graduated from C. W. Hayes High School in Birmingham before continuing his education at Tuskegee University then to the University of Alabama, where he played football. He would later return to Tuskegee University, earning a degree in Electrical Engineering.

In 1989, Aljuan relocated to Minnesota after being recruited by Honeywell, marking the

beginning of a distinguished and impactful engineering career. He went on to apply his

expertise at organizations including Hennepin County Medical Center, Norwest Bank

and US West, before founding AMB Construction Engineering. He retired from AMB

Construction Engineering in 2022. Throughout his professional life, Aljuan was recognized not only for his technical skill but also for his leadership, business acumen, and commitment to service. His accomplishments were honored with the City Business "40 Under 40" Award in 1994 and the McKnight Foundation's Virginia McKnight Binger Award in Human Service in 1995. Beyond his career, Aljuan was deeply committed to personal growth and community. He enjoyed music, cooking and weightlifting. He cultivated lifelong relationships through university attendance, as a Mason, volunteering, service projects, gym workouts, and most importantly, by simply showing up to listen, learn, support and laugh. Aljuan is survived by his wife of 31 years, Sheri Hixon; his daughters, Imara (Ricky), Cha, and Jua Hixon; an array of cousins including, Ronald Barnes and Michelle Hixon and their respective families. Also, by a wide circle of amazing brother and sister friends who enriched his life and whose lives were enriched by his presence, humor, mentorship, and generosity. He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Jean Owens Hixon; his father, Alphonso Hixon; his grandmother, Annie Mae Owens; and his sister, Monica Hixon. Big Al will be remembered for his strength, kindness, and commitment to uplifting others. His legacy lives on through his family, friends, and the many communities he was privileged to serve. Funeral service MONDAY, January 5th, 9:30 am, BETH EL SYNAGOGUE, 5225 Barry St. W., St. Louis Park, also available via Zoom (see link below). SHIVA 7 pm, Monday evening at Beth El Synagogue. Memorials preferred to Smith Jewish Academy (formerly HMJDS) and United Negro College Fund Minneapolis-St. Paul.

To the family: I am praying that God and your memories will comfort you. I met Algjuan while we were students at UA. His sister and my sister were great friends at TI. My lasting memory of him was someone who dearly loved his Mother, Sister Monica and his Grandmother. So happy that he was a husband and Father of three daughters who will honor and keep alive his memory. Anita L. Kelly
