Alice Lee Abbott

Alice Spruill Abbott, 96, went to be with the Lord on April 28, 2024. She was born in Edenton, North Carolina and was the daughter of the late Harry R. Spruill and Lela Estel Basnight Spruill.
She was predeceased by her loving husband of 64 years, Walter B. Abbott II; and siblings, Jarvis Spruill, Harry Spruill, Louis Spruill, Marion Pierce, and Edna Contratti; as well as a granddaughter, Kelly Valentine.
Alice was a long time member of South Norfolk Congregational Christian Church. She was a homemaker, enjoyed flower gardening, collecting antiques/crystal, playing cards, and was an avid reader. She enjoyed exercising with her friends at the Life Style Fitness Center; lifting weights, working out on exercise machines, and her favorite class was yoga, where she was standing on her head at age 90!!
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Vicki A. Baxter and husband, Allen of Chesapeake; a son, Walter B. Abbott, III and wife Maria of Midlothian, Va.; five grandchildren, Kristi Taylor, Jeffrey Baxter, Katy George, Wally and Kyle Abbott; and four great-grandchildren, Tonya Dove, Haleigh Baxter, Dallas Shelp, and Hanna Janssens.
The family would like to offer their gratitude to the staff at Commonwealth Georgian Manor and West Minister Hospice for the care and compassion given to Alice.
A private family graveside service will be held at Magnolia Cemetery in Norfolk. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Chesapeake Humane Society, in memory of Mrs. Abbott's love of animals.
