ALICE E. BOUCHER (NEE: AMES) May 26, 1931-July 11, 2024. Eldest daughter of Leon A. Ames, and Mary Ellen (Walsh) Ames. Alice is survived by her brother Leon, sister-in-law Ruth, her nieces and nephew, and her four children: Richard and daughter-in-law Sandy, John and daughter-in-law Tracy, Colette and son-in-law Edward, and youngest daughter Janine,
with whom she lived for 20 years and who was her primary caretaker. Alice is survived by 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Alice fostered a life-long love of education, learning and serving others in the health care field. She earned her Registered Nurse degree in 1956 from Malden Hospital in Malden, MA. She was a trailblazer in the field by earning a CRNP (Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner) degree from the University of Maryland in the late 1970's. Alice was a graduate from one of the first classes. She later earned a CDE designation (Certified Diabetes Educator.) She held positions at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center for many years in cancer research and AIDS treatment. She served as the Outpatient Coordinator for the Diabetes Center at the Charleston Area Medical Center in Charleston, West Virginia. Alice was either the primary or co-author of over 25 published professional articles, including a publication in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA).
Unsatisfied with her educational achievements, despite her professional successes, she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree from West Virginia Institute of Technology in 1992, and her Master's Degree from Temple University in 1998. She achieved both of these degrees while in her 60's.
Alice's personal interests were as varied as her professional interests. She loved spending time with her family and celebrating the success and achievements of her grandchildren in particular. She was a voracious reader, especially in medieval history. Alice researched and authored a family genealogy history, with some branches stretching back to the 1500's. She was a member of both the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Mayflower Society (a 13th generation Richard Warren descendant). Alice loved classical music, the baroque and classical eras in particular. She attended many concerts at the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra. Her greatest passion was arguably professional football. She was rabid in her support of the New England Patriots (as a MA native), and would regularly scream at the television during games. She also rooted for the Baltimore Ravens and attended numerous games throughout the years. She was an avid Draft Day follower. Finally, she was a fanatic fan and follower of the Tour de France, supporting her favorite teams and riders with the same passion she showed in all things in her life.
In lieu of flowers, Alice requested a contribution to the Lebanon County Humane Society.
