Alice Massey Brooks, 93, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 31, 2023 at the Duke Hospice Hock Family Pavilion surrounded by her family. She was born in Caswell County to the late Walter Jones and Beulah Stadler Massey. She was married for 58 years to the late William Henry Brooks who died in 2006.
Alice was born in Caswell County on August 15, 1929 to Walter Jones and Beulah Stadler Massey. She was the 5 th of 6 children. She graduated from Pleasant Grove High School where she was crowned May Queen. After graduation, she attended Beauty School and worked as a beautician for many years. After she and Bill moved to Durham, she worked for Duke Power Company as a draftsman and later worked for General Telephone Company as an engineer until her retirement in January of 1986. While working full time at GTE she attended night school at Durham Technical Institute where she received an associate business degree. Upon retirement, Bill and Alice moved to North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. They became active members in the Trinity United Methodist Church. She was a member of the church crafters and pep club. She loved to travel and visited various places on all 7 continents. She also enjoyed playing Skip-Bo with family and friends and was very competitive. She was a good sport but hated to lose. She also enjoyed making flower arrangements and doing crossword puzzles. Later on, she developed an interest in painting with water colors and was always painting cards for her family and friends. At a local art contest, she won first prize for one of her paintings. Most of the time when she wasn’t painting or doing crossword puzzles, she sat and enjoyed looking at her digital picture frame that showed pictures of her family, friends, and travels. Alice and Bill cherished spending time with their family.
