Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: "Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all." Proverbs 31:28-29
On July 29, 2025, Alice Marie Brown Clark exchanged her earthly life for eternal life. She was known affectionately as "Sis" by family and close friends. Alice was born on January 11, 1934, in Yanceyville, N.C., to the late Clayborn Turner Brown and Rosa Lee Sellars Brown.
Alice took pride in her upbringing in Caswell County, often sharing stories with her grandchildren about her family's farm, her parents' entrepreneurial skills, and establishing and maintaining a strong work ethic. She would later contribute to the book "Life in the Good Old Days in Alamance, Caswell, and Rockingham Counties" (Published 2005). Her feature was entitled "The Home Place on Turner Road."
Alice attended Beauty College and North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University School of Nursing, both in Greensboro, N.C., and later worked as a homemaker.
In September 1958, she married the love of her life, Willie Ed "Pops" Clark, Sr. Six children were born to this union.
A woman of faith, she attended church regularly, taught her children and grandchildren to pray, and remained an active member of the Morrowtown community in Burlington, N.C., where she proudly lived for 52 years and was known by everyone as one of the original matriarchs of the neighborhood. Her favorite color was blue, as evidenced by the large blue hydrangea that she planted in front of her home and nursed attentively. Alice enjoyed hosting her family for holidays, particularly Christmas, preparing wholesome meals, and ensuring that everyone knew that "JESUS IS THE REASON FOR THE SEASON!"
Elegant and fashionable, she was fond of shopping trips to Cato and weekly hair appointments.
Left to cherish precious memories are her Children: Shirley "Chelle" Walker (Toney, Sr.), Willie Ed Clark, Jr. (Mia), Phyllis Marie Clark, Michael Lee Clark; Grandchildren: Kristian Gant, Kelly Marie Clark, TJ Willis, Toney "Tee" Walker, Jr., LaToya "Toy Toy" Clark, Alvin Leon "AJ" Clark, Jr., and Michael Clark; Great-Grandchildren: Genora, Kamari, Zamarion, Se'Darian, Sa'Niyah, and Melody Rose; Brother: James Lafayette Brown, Sr. (Denise); Sisters: Sallie Mae Thompson (Jimmie-deceased) and Rose Ann Watson (Sam-deceased); and Daughter-in-law: Angela Thompson-Clark; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, lifelong neighbors and friends.
In addition to her parents, Alice was preceded in death by her Husband: Willie Ed Clark, Sr.; Sons: Alvin Leon "Dino" Clark, Sr. and Robert Anthony "Bay Bay" Clark; Grandsons: Antoine Dupree Crawford and Willie Ed "Boo Boo" Clark, III; and Brothers: Floyd "Toot" Brown, William "Son" Brown, Robert James "Dooley" Brown, and John Lee Brown; and Sister: Jean Crisco.
