On February 11, 2025, Alice Ella Domke passed away peacefully with her best friend and daughter Sharon by her side. Alice was a remarkable person who touched the lives of many with her happy and bubbly personality.
A lover of life, family and friends. Alice was born on March 27, 1929, to Calvin and Nellie (Wheeler) Bish in Breckenridge, Michigan. At the age of 12, Alice lost her own mother. Forcing her to grow up fast. By the age of 16, Alice was living with her best friend, attending school and working at a local diner. It's that local diner where she met her future husband, John "Jack" Domke. Jack fresh out of the Navy, out for lunch with a buddy met Alice. Jack asked Alice out on a date and the rest is history. He proposed to Alice in that very diner. They were married on January 31, 1947.
Jack and Alice had two beautiful daughters, Sharon and Carol, that they raised in St. Louis. Alice was a beloved mother who was actively involved with her daughters. She was a Future Homemakers leader, Girl Scouts leader, 4H leader and avid hunter and fisherman. While her daughters were in school, Alice worked at Schnepps Nursing Home in housekeeping. She loved visiting with the residents. After her children were grown, Alice went to work for St. Louis Public Schools as a custodian. She loved visiting with all the kids. Jack and Alice moved to Alma in 1989, where retirement years brought them travelling and going on trips to Branson, MO and even Las Vegas; with morning walks through the neighborhood, spending time polkaing the nights away at Alma Elks on Friday night and the St. Louis Moose Lodge on Saturdays. They loved going to the casino and spending time with their friends and family. Jack and Alice were married 56 years before he passed away in 2003.
Alice was blessed in 2005 with finding a domino playing partner and wonderful companion in Ijinio Zamarripa. Together the two filled each other's calendars with good food, great company and wonderful memories.
Alice was full of zest and life. She was a wonderful mother, beloved Grandma and adored Grammy. She loved her scratch offs, going garage saleing, birdwatching, spending time with her family and her cats. Alice loved watching her 4 grandchildren grow up and have families of their own. She will be deeply missed by all that knew her.
Alice is survived by her daughters, Sharon Thompson of Alma, Carol (Randy) Baldwin of Mt. Pleasant, grandchildren Bryan (Kerry) Thompson of Shepherd, Erika (JD) Bishop of Pickford, Brent Baldwin of St. Louis, Aaron (Michelle) Baldwin of Saginaw, great-grandchildren Ashely (Jesse) Evans, Breanna Thompson, Isabella Bishop, Madison Bishop, Jaylin Bishop, Maci (Jake) Barnes, Ellie Baldwin, Peyton Helms and Alyssa Baldwin and 7 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Alice is also survived by her beloved cats Sammy and Rosie, who never left her side.
