A Private Family Burial for Alice Doty Asa, age 83, of Berthoud, CO formerly of O'Neill, NE will be Thursday, May 29, 2025 at the O'Neill Cemetery in O'Neill. Alice passed away on Friday, May 16, 2025 at Good Life Assisted Living and Memory Care in El Paso, TX. In Lieu of flowers or gifts, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer's Association. Arrangements are entrusted to Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill.
Alice Marie (Doty) Asa passed away on May 16, 2025 at 10:35 pm in El Paso, Texas. She was born in Hendrix, Minnesota on June 19, 1941, the third child to Parnell and Norma Sagmoe.
Alice spent most of her early childhood in the close-knit town of Hendrix, where family and serving the community were the most important things in daily living. Alice loved to ice skate, help out her grandmother and sing. The love of singing continued throughout her life. She was always quick to provide a hymn to bring calmness and a sense of clarity to any stressful situation.
Alice's family moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota at the beginning of her high school years. Upon graduating high school, Alice went to work as a Secretary for the Nursing Director at Sioux Valley Hospital, beginning her lifelong calling as a caregiver. While Alice was still in Sioux Falls, she met a young Army soldier that would become her husband. As a military wife, she had the opportunity to see and live in many places both domestically and abroad. After the pass of her first husband Frank Doty, Alice married Leland Asa and experienced things she never dreamed of like learning to fly.
Alice always called herself a strong military wife, very independent doing whatever it took to contribute to the family. She worked as a caregiver for several assisted living facilities and was so well loved, they never wanted her to leave when her family needed more attention. Alice always showed extreme kindness to everyone. She knew everyone has a need to be valued and Alice had that gift to make you feel valued.
Alice was the ultimate in showing hospitality. The Hostess with the Mostest! Even when the dementia was causing changes to her behaviors, the need to make sure everyone in the room had what they needed never changed. She truly had a God Given gift of hospitality.
Alice is survived by her three sons, Jeffrey (Deborah) of El Paso, Tx, Michael (Jean) of Orchard, Ne, Gregory (Teresa) of Dacono, Co; two step children, Sandra Lundberg (Kevin) of Berthoud, Co, Bert Asa (Tracy) of Berthoud, Co; 13 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; brother, Robert Sagmoe (Gayle) of Sioux Falls, Sd; sister, Phyllis Guggisberg of Tn.
She is preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Pearl and Joyce; two brothers, Philip and Donald; two husbands, Frank Doty and Leland Asa.
