Dr Alice Hand Frederick

With deep gratitude for a life well lived, we announce the passing of Dr. Alice Hand Frederick.
Alice Frederick, age 94, a resident of Fairhope, Alabama, was born in 1930 in Hope Hull, Alabama, to Marvin and Emogene Hand.
Alice is survived by her five children, Dr Susan Frederick, Lacy Chapman (Clive), Dr France Frederick (Trey), Augusta Kantra (David), and William Frederick (Kimberly); her nine grandchildren, Dr Lacy Kantra Moore, Dr Amanda Fae Frederick, McKenzie Kantra Sutton, Jackson Frederick Daily, Calvin Frederick Chapman, Mac Frederick Daily, Alison Emily Chapman, Becca Rhea McLaughlin, and Thomas Harrison Frederick Sparks; and her five great grandchildren. She is also survived by many wonderful lifelong friends, including Dr Rucker and Nettie Staggers, Betty Jo Bethea, Gail Phillips and countless others.
Alice graduated from Hayneville High School, and she received her BS from Auburn University in 1951. She earned her Master of Arts in 1972 and her PhD in 1974 from the University of Alabama.
She married Dr William Frederick on the 26 of July, 1953. They moved to Eutaw, Alabama where he and Rucker Staggers had a medical practice for many years. Alice was a faithful member of the Eutaw Presbyterian Church.
Alice and Bill had a successful Charolais cattle business, and she was, of course, an officer in the National Charolais Association. She was a formidable woman with an entrepreneurial spirit. She loved to travel and had a passion for adventure.
While working at the Strickland Youth Center, she was a devoted advocate for young people and was pivotal during the course of many of their lives.
She was a beloved therapist to countless people in her long and celebrated practice in both Mobile and Fairhope. She continued to provide guidance and council to her clients until the age of 90. Many people feel that she was the angel of transformation in their lives. She provided the resources and insights that allowed them to flourish.
In her 30 years in Fairhope, she was a devoted member of both St James' and St Paul's Episcopal Churches and contributed much to the fabric of both communities. She was a blessing to everyone around her. She remained an insightful optimist throughout her life. Even though her eyesight was failing over the past years, her spiritual sight remained clear. She saw the God-given potential in everyone and helped many to realise that potential. She never failed to be grateful for all God's blessings. Her mantra was "God has been good to me!"
Alice's spirit will live on through her family and friends, and she will be deeply missed. Her contributions to the lives she touched will leave an indelible mark on the hearts of so many.
A visitation will be held on Friday December 13, 2024, at St Paul's Episcopal Church, located at 28788 North Main Street in Daphne, Alabama, at 2:00PM followed by a funeral service at 3:00PM.
A private graveside service will be held on Saturday in Hope Hull, Alabama, where she will rest peacefully beside her parents.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the attentive and compassionate care given to Alice for the last three and a half years at Huntington at Homestead Village.
