Alice J. Greer

Alice Josephine Greer, born on April 7, 1929 in Erie, PA passed away on October 16, 2025 in Erie at her residence. She was the beloved daughter of the late Joseph and Theodora Rys.

Alice was a devoted mother of 12, a lifelong nurse, and a compassionate caregiver to all who knew her. She faced life with resilience, kindness, and a good sense of humor. Guided by her deep faith in God and the Catholic Church, she shared her love generously with family, friends, and all in need. Alice lovingly passed down her Polish heritage and traditions to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Alice found simple joy in quiet moments, especially in peaceful drives along the Presque Isle Peninsula. She enjoyed watching the waves roll in, spotting birds along the shoreline, or stopping by Sara’s Restaurant for a burger. Alice cherished time with her family, whether at the beach in Southern California, celebrating birthdays and weddings, or enjoying vacations together. She loved decorating her home for the seasons, reading, gardening, attending Catholic Mass, and asking her children how many tacos they wanted on taco night.

She attended Holy Trinity School and Saint Benedict Academy in Erie, and she graduated from St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in Cleveland, Ohio. She worked for numerous hospitals, including ones in the San Fernando Valley, Simi Valley, and Thousand Oaks, California.

In addition to her parents, Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas F. Greer, and her infant son, Phillip A. Greer.

Alice is survived by her children: Thomas V. Greer, Timothy G. Greer, Mark A. Greer, Peter D. Greer, Patrick M. Greer, Kevin F. Greer, Mary K. (Greer) Burns, Paula J. (Greer) Rater, Steven J. Greer, Susan A. (Greer) Schober, and Matthew J. Greer. She is also survived by her brother, Thomas Rys, and sister, Chris Martin.

Friends and loved ones are invited to call at Burton Quinn-Scott Cremation & Funeral Services, West Ridge, located at 3801 West 26th Street, on October 21st, from 4 PM – 7 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held on October 22nd, at 11 AM at St. Jude’s the Apostle Church, 2801 West 6th Street, Erie, PA 16505. The burial will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
