Alice Gulinello Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Casper Funeral & Cremation Services on Nov. 13, 2023.
Alice Lucilla Gulinello, née Weston, - "Red" November 26, 1926- November 6, 2023
Beloved wife of the late John J. Gulinello, loving mother of the late Ann Ryerson and her husband Bob, Theresa Raymond and her husband David, Jack Gulinello and his wife Lisa Bocaner, and the late David Gulinello. Cherished grandmother of David and Michelle Raymond, Rebecca Ryerson, Michael Gulinello and Stacie Parker, Zack and Amy Gulinello. Great grandmother of Dan and Alexa Raymond, Nat Cokely, Kyra Gulinello, Dayton and Quinton Lopez. She also leaves behind her beloved friend, Gloria Gurevich, her constant companion during her years at Grove Manor.
Alice was not even 4 when her father died leaving her mother with 3 children under the age of 4 at the start of the Depression. She remembered a hard, but nevertheless, happy childhood, especially of staying at Aunt Lou's farm, ice skating on a pond near her house, and of being active in her church choir and youth group. One of her fondest memories was of visiting the State House with her great grandfather, a Civil War veteran, who worked there as a guide.
Graduating from Malden High at the end of WWII, Alice went right to work as a bookkeeper and met her future husband, Johnny, an electrician's helper, who called her Red to the end of his days, long after her hair had turned snowy white. Married in 1949, together they raised 4 children in South Boston and later in Dorchester. Although she left the workforce, she continued her bookkeeping skills as the secretary for her husband's electrical business, Jade Electric. They retired to Randolph and lived there for 31 years. In retirement she volunteered for many years at Carney and later Good Samaritan Hospital.
She was creative, an excellent seamstress and knitter, teaching many others to knit and crochet. At her husband's death in 2018 she moved to Grove Manor. There Alice blossomed, participating in all activities with her sidekick Gloria, painting, doing puzzles, writing poetry, doing jigsaw puzzles and solving her favorite cryptograms. Until last year, she continued knitting, turning out dozens of "take me home" blankets which she donated to local hospitals.
After a period of failing health, on the morning of November 6, on what would have been her 74th wedding anniversary, Alice let go and slipped into eternity, joining her husband John and her God.
Alice's family wishes to express gratitude to the staffs of St. Joseph Manor, especially Maria II and pastoral care team, as well as Sunset Hospice who provided loving and compassionate care to Alice in her last months. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Alice's name to either of these organizations:
St Joseph Manor Health Care, 215 Thatcher St, Brockton, MA, 02302
OR
A Mass of Remembrance will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 6 at 1 p.m., at St. Joseph Manor Chapel. Family and friends are welcome. Interment at Cedar Grove Cemetery will take place at a later date.
