In Loving Memory of Alice Fern Reed Haley
Alice Fern Reed Haley, a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, cousin, aunt and friend, was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 22, 2024, to be reunited with her husband Frank after only 6 weeks apart. Born on Sunday, December 19, 1948, in Palacios, Texas, to Percy Hillman Reed and Myrtle Burnett Reed, Alice was the youngest of seven siblings. She brought joy to her family with her infectious spirit and her beautiful soprano voice that could light up a room.
Growing up, Alice was an active and vibrant child, playing basketball and showcasing her love for fashion in the many homemade dresses her mother lovingly sewed for her. Her musical journey began early, and she pursued her passion by earning a Bachelor of Music from the University of Houston in 1971. It was there that she not only honed her craft but also met Frank, the love of her life. They married in 1976, blending their families as Alice embraced Frank's three children—Matt, Amanda, and Meagan— whom she adored as her own.
In June 1977, the family moved to Albuquerque, where they welcomed two more blessings, Lydia in September 1977 and Noah in April 1982. Alice's nurturing spirit extended beyond her own children; she had a special place in her heart for all children. She dedicated her life to teaching music at several local schools, offering private voice lessons from her home, and leading children’s choir at church. Her powerful voice and passionate performances made her a cherished soloist in various women’s ensembles, touching the hearts of many.
Alice's green thumb brought life and beauty into her home, where she cultivated gardens and nurtured houseplants with love. Her creative spirit shone through in her passion for arts and crafts, especially scrapbooking and word puzzles. She had a deep and abiding interest in genealogy. Yet, above all, family was her priority. She planned many family reunions and would regularly take road trips across the country to see family far and wide. She created lasting memories with her loved ones, always making time for them, embodying gentleness, kindness, and selflessness.
A woman of deep faith, Alice found joy and strength in attending ladies’ Bible study with her friends, drawing inspiration from her unwavering trust in God. Her legacy of love, compassion, and musical grace will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew her.
Alice is survived by her children, Matthew, Lydia, and Meagan; her extended family; and a multitude of friends and family who cherished her spirit. She now rests in peace, reunited with her beloved Frank, basking in the eternal love of her Savior.
Alice Fern Reed Haley will be remembered for her radiant spirit, her generous heart, and her unwavering faith. May her memory continue to inspire us to love and serve one another as she did, reflecting the light of Christ in our lives.
