Alice Mary Halvorson, 89, of Augusta, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully in her home on May 27, 2025.

Alice was born at home to her parents, Lilah and Harold Hanson, in Hixton, Wisconsin, on March 20, 1936. Growing up, Alice preferred tending to outdoor chores on the family farm alongside her father. Though she loved being outside, she became an avid baker-able to whip up a treat in no time, right up to her final days.

Alice married her lifelong husband, Myron Halvorson, on Christmas Day, 1952. They celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary before Myron's passing. Together they raised five boys and three girls, who kept Alice busy both at home and in her working life.

Alice was filled with strength, grit, and tenacity-traits that helped her raise eight children, a few grandchildren too, and later return to school to earn her GED at the age of 43.

She was introduced to softball through 4-H and continued to play until she was 52. In her later years, Alice took up embroidery, a hobby that helped her quit smoking and showcased her precision and determination.

Alice loved to work and doing so kept her active well beyond retirement age. She worked as a nursing assistant at the Augusta and Fall Creek Nursing homes, in food service at the local cattle sale barn, she was a manager at Dairy Queen and The Cinnamon Shoppe, and provided janitorial services at Oakwood Mall.

She loved the simple things in life: sharing time with family around meals and card games, bird watching, and giving extra treats to the kitties. Her love of baking delighted both friends and family. Anyone who ever had a cinnamon roll or loaf of bread at the Oakwood or London Mall got a taste of her craft-she had personally tweaked the recipes to perfection while the manager.

Alice also loved reading, watching Westerns, solving crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and listening to and telling jokes-always ending with her infectious, memorable laugh.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Myron; her parents, Harold and Lilah Hanson; and her brother, Marshall Hanson.

She is survived by her siblings: Harriet Johnson of Eau Claire, Betty Peterson of Prescott, and Eric (Judy) Hanson of Alma Center, and her sister-in-law, Irene Thompson of Blair; her children: Gerald (Maggie Woodford) of Eau Claire, Jean Gilbert of Hayward, Mary Aiken of Eau Claire, Micheal, David (Mitzi), Gregory all of Augusta, Sharon (Robert) Miller of Grand Junction, Colorado, and John of Waupaca; 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and a 5 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom will continue to cherish her memory and carry forward her legacy of love, laughter, and resilience.

The family would like to thank the St. Croix Hospice team that worked with Alice over this past year.

A Celebration of Life for Alice will be held on Sunday, June 22, 2025, 1:00 pm- 4:00 pm at the Augusta Lions Hall, 200 E Lincoln St, Augusta, WI 54722.
