Obituary published on Legacy.com by Greene Funeral Services - South Chapel on Sep. 25, 2025.
In the gentle embrace of the mountains where her heart resided, Alice Marie Hansell, beloved wife, sister, aunt, and friend, peacefully departed from this world on September 24, 2025. Born in
Gastonia, North Carolina, on October 21, 1960, Alice's presence was a tapestry woven with threads of love, joy, and unwavering faith.
A devoted homemaker, Alice dedicated her life to her family, filling their hearts with warmth and laughter. She cherished her husband, David Hansell, and nurtured bonds with her sisters, Rita Clark and Kay Pittman, brother Bob Absher Jr., and her brothers-in-law, Paul Pittman and Max Clark. Her love echoed in the halls of her home, a haven for her many nieces and nephews who adored her dearly.
Alice was born a "blue Baby". Many children in the 50's and 60's had the same condition. John Hopkins tried to find a cure for these children. It was all experimental. Duke University began working on finding a way children could live past childhood. Parents would drive long distances to "get in line" at Duke and wait for long hours to see a doctor about their child. So that is what our family did from 1960 on. It was always a struggle for Alice. If you would like to know more about the blue babies, called that because the lips, faces, fingers and toes were blue due to the oxygen deprivation. Look up and watch the movie "Something the Lord Made".
Alice danced through life with a spirit as bright as the snowflakes she cherished. Her laughter rang out in sweet melodies, as she often delighted in singing hymns at church, celebrating her faith with friends during cherished fellowship gatherings. A culinary artist, she crafted meals that brought everyone together, infusing love into every dish, and sharing stories that warmed the soul.
With her loyal fur baby, Sugar Baby, by her side, Alice embraced each day with gratitude, always looking for the beauty in simple moments. Her nurturing, generous spirit will be profoundly missed but lovingly remembered by all whose lives she touched.
Services to honor Alice's beautiful life will be held Saturday, September 27, 2025 at the Concord United Methodist Church (2404 Tryon Courthouse Rd. Bessemer City, North Carolina, 28016,) where family and friends will gather to share memories and celebrate the love she gave so freely. In her memory, those who wish to pay their respects may do so at the location of her final resting place, a sanctuary nestled amidst the embrace of nature she adored. Visitation will be 10:30 AM till 11:00 AM with the Service starting at 11:00 AM. In the hearts of those she leaves behind, Alice Marie Hansell will forever sing on, a cherished melody in the symphony of life.
Alice was preceded in death by: Robert Absher Sr., Gladys Absher, Bob Absher Jr.
