Alice Ellen Lawler, age 71, of Jackson, Ohio passed away Saturday, November 15, 2025, at her home surrounded by her family and friends after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born April 11, 1954, in Oak Hill, Ohio to the late John Milton and Helen Lula Hoops.
Ellen was a graduate of Jackson High School. She worked for Wal-Mart for several years until retirement. Ellen poured her heart into her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who were her pride and joy. She spent her time with them, whether it was shopping, cooking, or simply just spoiling them with laughter and love.
Ellen is survived by her children, Heather (Tony) Murphy, Dana (Jeff) Davis, John Lawler, and Erin (Randy) Hughes; grandchildren: Andrew, Cassie, Payton (Dillon), Skylar, Ethan (Gabby), Drake, Paige (Brayden), Jordas, Allison, William, Alexis, and Audrey; great-grandchildren: Tanner, Amelia, Grayson, Harper, Colton, and Rachel; siblings: Gayle (Dave) Rankin, Gary (Barbara) Hoops, and Keith (Betty) Hoops; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dr. Jack (Caryn) Lawler, Becky (Dwayne) Austin, and Mike (Linda) Lawler; two very special friends, Lisa Stevens and Linda Coyan; several nieces and nephews whom she loved as her own; and last but not least, her fur baby, Jazzy Girl.
She is preceded in death by her husband, David Alan Lawler; her precious son, Thomas James Henry; her parents, John and Helen Hoops; her siblings, Allen (Patty) Hoops and Joyce Balzer; brother in law, Jim Hanish; nephew, Ritchie Slavens; nieces, Leesha Robbins, Ginger Slavens, Cindy Ferrell, Carissa Hoops Aikman, Kelly Hanish, and Kathy Minor whom she loved deeply and missed dearly.
Per her wishes, there will be no public services as she wanted to be remembered by who she was.
Ellen will be interred at Fairmount Cemetery at the discretion of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Jackson. Online condolences may be sent to www.lewisgillum.com.
