Sarah Alice Horton McCurdy, age 98, of Stone Mountain, passed away in her sleep on March 4, 2010. Born in Florida in 1912, Alice grew up in Pendleton, SC, and graduated from Emory Nursing School in 1934. While attending nursing school she met her husband, Dr. Willis T. McCurdy. She was a private duty nurse following graduation, Southeastern Supervisor for the American Red Cross Blood Bank during World War II, and assisted her husband in his medical practice in Stone Mountain. She was a member of Stone Mountain First Baptist Church, a life member of the Stone Mountain Woman's Club and a member of the Callanwolde Guild and DeKalb Medical Auxiliary. Alice is survived by daughter, Harla McCurdy Brown of Pittsburgh, PA, and son, Jim McCurdy of Stone Mountain, GA; ten grandchildren: Ryan Brown of Pittsburgh; Jamie Brown of Charlotte, NC; Kerry Brown of New York City; Travis Brown of Atlanta; Jason Brown of Seoul, South Korea; Katy McCurdy of Stone Mountain; Kevin Brown of Pittsburgh; Tracy Brown of Vancouver, BC; Michael McCurdy of Stone Mountain; Martika Brown of Ohio; and six great-granddaughters: Sydney, Mia, Maggie and Audrey Brown of Pittburgh; Isabella Tonidandel of Charlotte and Lela Grace Brown of Atlanta. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Stone Mountain First Baptist Church, PO Box 806, Stone Mountain, GA 30086 or ART Station, PO Box 1988, Stone Mountain, GA 30086. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Wages & Sons in Stone Mountain. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on March 6 at Wages & Sons Stone Mountain, Chapel 770-469-9811
