On Friday, February 27, 2026, Alice J. Murray, 89 years young, of Creston, unexpectedly passed away at home and entered into the glory of heaven.

Alice Jean was born on March 7, 1936, in Creston to Hubert and Ella May (Shriver) Christian. She graduated with the first class of Norwayne High School in 1954, and on December 29, 1956 married her high school sweetheart and the boy across the street, Garrison “Garry” Murray. Together they operated the family business, Murray Funeral Home, with Alice always behind the scenes, cleaning, answering the phones and helping Garry show ponies at the fair. She was a lifelong and active member of Creston-Canaan United Methodist Church and was faithful in Bible study and daily devotions. Over the years, she was active in the Community Service Club and community activities and in 1986 was honored as a Creston Citizen of the Year. Alice was a member of Real G.E.M.S. Red Hat Society and Creston Friends of the Library.

She will be greatly missed by her sons and daughters-in-law, James and Pamela Murray, John and Sheri Murray and Joseph and Julia Murray. She was a loving gramma to Jamie and her husband Jon Wellert, Garrison Murray and girlfriend Claudia Williams, Helen and her husband Jake Simpson, Richard Murray and Christian Murray and great gramma to Jillian, Joshua, Ava and James. She is also survived by her much-loved sisters and brothers, Erma Irvin, Bill Christian, Betty McNutt and Melvin and his wife Sue Christian, in-laws, Gerry Christian, Judy Christian and Walter Slater and many loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Garry Murray on Feb. 19, 2011, her parents, a grandson, Joseph Bruce Murray and brothers, Virgil and Howard Christian.

Services will be Saturday, March 7th at 1:30 p.m. at Creston-Canaan United Methodist Church with Pastor Kimmy Farone officiating. Burial will follow at Creston Maple Mound Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday from 3-7 p.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Creston-Canaan United Methodist Church, PO Box 1111, Creston, OH 44217.
